DampRid - now here's some real minutiae

For all you Southerners with expertise on DampRid (which I never heard of until here on cc) - I happened to notice a shelf of the stuff at local hardware store. Jeez-o-man, it comes in about a jillion different forms: rectangular packets on a hanger, sachets, beads you put in a bucket, crystals in a “milk carton”, etc. etc. etc.

S is headed to New Orleans, so when we get there, I’m guessing the hanger version would be the best for a boys’ room. IE, hang it in there and it does its job with no effort from him. Is that the way to go?

Be careful. It really does pick up moisture to the extent of filling up with liquid. Mom sets it in a plastic tub in the floor of the closet. I’m not familiar with the hanger style. Just be sure to change it out when it gets full.

I live in the South and never heard of it until I read about it here.

What exactly is the purpose of this stuff?
