No misuse on your part. That is, unfortunately, how she is described, but she is to opera as Velveeta is to cheese. I guess popera could describe it. Andrea Bocelli, Josh Groban, Sarah Brightman - all popera.

Popera…can I use that? Great word!

I have to agree with this, although he is getting better at coming up with routines that challenge his partners and show off their talents. He’s always played it so careful, but that one year that he had a real good partner (Melissa Rycroft) seemed to re-invigorate him. He did a LOUSY job with Marissa Janet Winokur (the Hairspray gal). I kept waiting for her to break out, but Tony’s routines didn’t give her the chance.

Was it Tony who danced the waltz dressed in military uniform as part of a dream sequence? Who was his partner? That was a very remarkable dance!

Katherine Jenkins is described as “sexy soprano” and is paired with Mark Ballas…he’s getting so edgy that being his partner is going to be the kiss of death.

^ellem, I believe that Tony D. partner was Audrina Patridge.

Thanks! What a moving dance that was…

Did anyone watch the premier of DWTS season 14? I just watched the show and could not believe the quality of dancers on the new season! There were a few (maybe 4) very so-so dancers, and the rest of the field were exceptionally good dancers. Len said that this was the best opening week performance that they had ever had… and it wasn’t just the usual hype.

I agree. Usually there are 1 or 2 dancers that are so awful that you know they will be the first ones to go. This season is different.

I’m not sure why there doesn’t seem to be as much excitement for this season yet. There isn’t a “lightning rod” contestant that brings attention to the show. Last year, we had Chaz Bono. The year before Kate Gosselin and Pamela Anderson.

Agree with that assessment jshain (and ellemenope).

Love this show. I crack up my family with how I love the opening song and the walk down the stairs - lol. I thought the premiere was fantastic. I love that there are no ringers and no stunt casting and no really bad dancers. They all seem at least somewhere in the ballpark together. This will probably be a contest moreso than ever of personality and choreography.

cartera,

You should come with a warning; do not read while drinking :)

Sherri Shepherd was absolutely hysterical. She’s a very funny lady who I adore. Her humor reminds me a lot of Niecy Nash. If Martina Navratilova hadn’t spoken, I would not have recognized her. She looked beautiful. Ladies on this forum, please don’t gush over William Levy as the weeks progress (you know who you are). How did he get such a name? Sounds like a nice Jewish boy, not the latin Brad Pitt.

I only got to catch from Navritilova on. I’ve been meaning to go back and watch the beginning. I was amazed how nice she looked. Ds2, who didn’t know her, couldn’t believe how I was gushing and asked, “Was she famous for being ugly or something?” Looking forward to the rest of the season.

Melissa Gilbert looked horrible. What is it with these actresses of a certain age who think that plastic surgery might be a good idea? I like to remember her as Half-pint with freckles and pigtails. She just looks scary now. Her dancing wasn’t terrible, though.

I agree, the entire dance we talked about MG’s duck lips. Wrinkled old lady smoker lips would be better than that.

^And don’t forget MG’s “new” tattoo on her upper left arm! smh…

I’ve never heard of him, but was quite impressed with the whole package. He’s much better built than Brad Pitt–why is he even compared to Brad Pitt? I don’t get that part…

Re MG: what tattoo? I’ll have to keep a lookout for it.

Martina Navratilova–as a tennis player, I LOVE her! Plus Chris Evert was in the audience last week. I may have to aggregate all my votes and vote for Martina to keep her going for a while. Many of the female athletes in team sports (so I’m excluding the gymnasts and ice skaters) have trouble getting in touch with their feminine side (think Hope Solo). I hope Martina will be able to make progress.

Don’t get all the frenzy over Wm Levy. He’s ok but I think he looks more like Ricky Martin than Brad Pitt. And I thought guys like Gilles Marini and Christian de la Fuente were much sexier.

I, too, thought Martina looked gorgeous. Both Urkel and Gladys Knight were pleasant surprises.

Gilles Marini…that guy made my TV smoke…still haven’t forgiven Cheryl Burke for screwing up the freestyle dance with him…

Monday night’s week 2 show was good. I was curious to see if Katherine could come out and nail a completely different dance from last week’s foxtrot… and she definitely did. She is absolutely a stunning woman both on and off the dance floor.

I also enjoyed Roshon, Sherri, Maria, and Donald. Really thought Carrie Ann and Bruno over-scored William, giving him 9’s, and that Len was more accurate in giving him a 7. His quickstep was danced okay but it looked really heavy to me.

I’m hoping that Melissa goes home and not Martina. Even though Melissa isn’t the worst dancer, she just makes me uncomfortable when she’s on camera and her partner Maks’s choreography isn’t that great anyway. Gladys had an off night with this dance but she sure looked beautiful.

Jimmy Connors and Pam Shriver were in the audience cheering on Martina. Does anyone know who the dark haired woman is who sat between them? I hope Martina can hang on (she really didn’t dance well at all tonight). I better vote all my votes for her…

Agreed that William was overscored. Roshon was amazing! Chelsie has a way with those young Disney stars…Sherri was a HOOT! I do hope she’ll stay around for a while.

Katherine was very good tonight, but Mark almost overdanced…

Probably her girlfriend, Julia.

I found the show pretty entertaining last night. Roshon, who I had never heard of before, is a very good dancer. Sherri was fun to watch. I think Jack’s dance was one of the funniest I’ve ever seen on the show. I agree about Melissa, jshain, she’s difficult to watch.

That’s a given. ;)
