I read an article that DWS had talks with Johnny Manziel but ultimately decided against signing with him be cause he was “too controversial”. But now I see they signed Tonya Harding…really?
Tanya Harding was a thug. The fact that she’s getting so much attention this past year is mind boggling. I can’t imagine how Nancy Kerrigan feels about all this. It must be very unsettling for her.
Agreed. Not saying Johnny Manziel is not controversial but I find Tonya Harding every bit as controversial. Makes no sense to me.
I have lost some respect for ABC in adding Tonya to the show. Thanks to everyone who contributed to the success of I, Tonya! The stars were aligned for her after the movie was successful. I cannot help but wonder if the invite would still have been extended to her had this been a regular show instead of athletes only?
Guess who will be voted out quickly… the show needs some chaff to be sorted from the wheat.
I was trying to figure out who they would partner Adam Rippon with. My mind just jumped to the idea that he should have a male partner — could they do that? I’d find it interesting to watch.
Here is the lineup:
Tonya is controversial but, as far as I know, she has stayed out of trouble since the Nancy Kerrigan incident and she is certainly entitled to a second chance. I wonder if Kerrigan was invited to participate. As far as who I am rooting for, I think Adam Rippon is adorable and so talented, but as an old geezer, I have to go with Kareem Abdul Jabbar for the win.
Ditto, techmom. Go Kareem!
I think Alan Bersten may have landed himself the front running female.
With a S and H who went to ND, I guess I will be rooting for Arike!
Mirai and Adam will probably have a definite advantage in flexibility.
Kerrigan was on a couple of seasons ago.
^She was eliminated in week 7. I will be shocked if Tonya makes it that far, especially in a field of mostly younger athletes… and a hostile fan base.
Mr. B, after looking at the link, “Why is Tonya Harding pictured without a baseball bat?”
Michael Phelps dude would have been good.

You don’t say? I haven’t been watching too much in the past couple of years and I was never a big Kerrigan fan. I always thought she seemed kind of stuck up, even back in the day. NOT that I think what happened to her was right, appropriate or deserved because I don’t. I actually think Tonya could have beaten her in a fair and square ice skating competition because I thought Tonya was a better skater.
techmom, Tonya was strong in the technical elements (first female at the time to land a triple axle) but Nancy had superior artistic scores.
