Danforth Dorms

I just received my washu dorm assignment and I got assigned to Danforth (modern double).
I’m very happy with my rooming assignment since modern dorms are super nice but I heard that modern dorms are not as social. Is this true for Danforth dorms? Are doors usually open?

Also, is Danforth coed on each floor or do different floors have different genders?

And if anyone knows any information about living in Danforth dorms please tell:)

Danforth is coed on all floors. Same with every other dorm on the South 40.

Some people believe traditionals are more social than moderns, but it really just comes down to luck of the draw with who is on your floor. It’s probably “easier” to be social on a traditional floor because the conditions “force” you to see your floormates more often, but that doesn’t mean modern dorms cannot be just as social. I enjoyed my floor in Park last year, which I considered quite social. As for Danforth, suggest to your floormates at your first floor meeting that you adopt an open door policy (keep your door open when you’re in your room and allow other people to enter as they wish). It’ll be very easy to stay social because instead of wondering where people are, you can peek in each room as you walk down the hall and find out who is where.

My D was in Danforth her freshman year - it is a great dorm! She was on a substance free floor and liked it. There is a beautiful little library inside the front door to the right. Danforth also has a computer lab where you can print (it use to be free - not sure if that is still the case). Danforth (along with Shepley and Wheeler) are the dorms on the South 40 that are the farthest from classroom buildings, food, etc. but the students don’t seem to mind.

My D is a quiet person, did not leave her door open, but still made plenty of friends her freshman year and they remainded some of her best friends all four years. Freshman year there were lots of outings, get togethers, meals, etc. aimed at helping students get to know their “dorm mates”. Try to go to as many of those activities as you can and you will meet plenty of people!
