Daniel Radcliff - Is this Harry Potter??

Well, this is one way to make sure you’re not typecast Daniel!

Stuff;

He is only 17, so I guess he couldn’t do the play in the US.

Guy’s gotta work. And I bet the kids who grew up along with Harry are likely delighted, as they should be.

As for the parents, they have Peter Pan complex, and are sorry to see their own kids grow up.

That’s a lot of body hair for 17! Does baldness run in Daniel’s family?

(Actually, it is Peter Pan disorder by proxy. ;))

Jeepers . . . it’s a high-end Serious Drama, Peter Schaffer’s Equus. It’s a role with a lot of prestige and pedigree, originated by Peter Firth, and then making Tom Hulce a star (playing against Anthony Hopkins and Richard Burton). The central character is a disturbed, but naive teenager, and pretty much has to be played by someone close to that age (although Firth did the movie at 24). It has some sexuality in it (handled VERY heavy-handedly, with ponderous Freudian overtones).

It’s not porn. It’s not teensploitation. I don’t like it that much, but if every kid over 10 in America watched it, the national average SAT score would probably go up a few points.

I say Kudos to Daniel, if he excels in the role!

I have seen a production of Equus and agree with JHS. Good for “Harry”!

Equus controversial? I saw it a jillion years ago with Leonard Nimoy (!) as the psychiatrist. Another example of someone trying to escape typecasting.

As for Daniel Radcliff, wow! I had no idea he was so hot!

He’s an actor. Just because his previous role as Harry Potter has been respected by many children and adults, it certainly is not his responsibility to be a role model for the children of the world. His work is to act. He is one of the fortunate ones if he can go from child actor to adult actor without being typecast. If parents are acting as good role models for their own children, they shouldn’t need to worry about whether someone else is doing the job or not.

JHS:

Right you are! The role is a wonderful one. The play is … well, it was good for its time but a bit wordy and preachy. Nudism is absolutely required to make the play work.

Good for him for working to improve his craft.

Just wondering out loud…

If it were Emma Watson appearing on stage nude (almost 17), would the reaction be the same?

Would we be saying “Good for her” and “I didn’t realize that she was so hot.”…?

Emma Watson? Wouldn’t matter one way or the other to me. It depends on the role. I can’t think of a play that requires nudity (for artistically sound reasons) from a teenage female off the top of my head right now, but I’m sure there are some.

As someone who is frequently in the company of 17-year-old boys, I can attest that it would not be news to any of them that Emma Watson is hot. She has had a special place in their fantasies for years.

(Does anyone remember the SNL sketch when the last Harry Potter movie came out, with Lindsey Lohan playing an overdeveloped Hermione? That was one of the funniest sketches in years.)

The other half of that picture is in the gallery:)

Good post, Splashmom. Equus is a great drama, and the role definitely requires the actor to be naked at times. I think it’s a good step for him as an actor, and I hope he does well with it.

I don’t think it’s an issue of male/female; in fact, in movies female nudity gets a lower rating than male nudity. Equus, as others have said, is a well-known play that requires a nudity from a young man. I don’t think that female nudity by someone this age would be treated differently unless the role had her acting as a stripper or in some other exploitive fashion, in which case I can see people getting more worked up about it.

Are your sure that’s our Harry? I didn’t recognize him without his . . .
glasses.

Naked Emma Watson? Where? Where?

(and who is Emma Watson?)

I can’t get the link to work but You Tube has an hilarious snippet of DR as a sex-obsessed “Harry” on Ricky Gervais’s show, “Extras.” Google Daniel Radcliffe on extras. Be patient; the best part takes place in the diner. Diana Rigg is priceless.

Whoops. There’s one snippet that doesn’t include Diana Rigg. Find the one that does. When I googled, it was the second from the top. Very funny.

Holy &($#*.

I need to go bleach my eyeballs till he turns 18. Whoever took those pictures is being very cruel to thirtysomething nerds like myself.

Must…not…think…he’s…hot…
