Am I the only one that loves to read her books. Can’t wait to read Precious Gifts.
I have some favorites that I have read several times.
I just finished Southern Lights again and am currently reading Hotel Vendome.
She comes out with three to four books a year and I’ll admit I am running a few books behind.
I read on facebook that she is going to come out with six books in 2016.
I love escaping into to a different world when reading her books.
I’ve read her in the past, but hit a couple that were so truly awful that I stopped. I read the fairly recent one focused on Nashville and liked it. It really is escapist literature (I use that word lightly) and quick reads. She is truly amazing at how fast she can turn out the books. I usually don’t admit to reading her books. I feel like I need a brown paper bag cover on my Kindle!
Perfect books for beach/poolside, etc. I’m a fan.
Yeah, hate to “out” myself but I confess to loving a few of her books. Hotel Vendome is one! I also loved Granny Dan. On the other hand she’s had some doozies too.
DS has made a fortune doing what she’s doing so . . .
No, I used to when I was much younger. I wonder how old she must be now. Her earliest books were really great but she lost a lot of depth, IMO, as she really started cranking them out faster and faster.
I read that they are actually written by multiple people, just using her name. Can’t remember where I read it, though!
(excuse my typing errors - writing this with a paper bag over my head…) Sorry that made me laugh so much!!!
I started reading her books ions ago. They were a perfect light escape when the kids were very little. I have read many over the years and admit to enjoying them as an easy read. I enjoy the ones that are about modern day families as opposed to historical ones or ones set long ago.
(and it’s true - I have a lot of book snob friends - I prefer not to openly admit to Steel in front of them!!! Of course, I read “better” stuff too)
Having said that, I just read Prodigal Son (a 2015 release) - it was VERY predictable and many times I found myself reading and saying to myself , "why does she keep repeating everything several times!? " I felt like she kept describing the characters, situations and things in the same way but different words OVER and OVER again - it was driving me nuts!!!
I read her very early books, and I will pick them up if I find them in the cheap section of the bookstore. I have wound up buying the same book multiple times, because they do run together for me.
She is VERY repetitive. I picked up one of her books on CD on a car trip once at Cracker Barrel and made H listen to it. It was truly awful. We were actually howling with laughter when things were repeated 4 and 5 times. Sort of the 2000s version of the “heaving bosom.”
I haven’t read all her books but there are a few that I like to read over again once I have forgotten the story.
I read them maybe 2 or 3 times a year when I’m on break.
