So I was looking at dorms and I really liked danielsen…Is it good for freshman? Is it full of freshman like the towers? or is it hard for freshman with many upper-class students? i want a place where is mostly freshman students but I really don’t like the dorms at the towers so I’d like to know if Danielsen is worth for freshman?

danielsen is super far away & right next to mit, basically (the frats…so it would be convenient for partying), so you’d have to take the t probably everywhere. that said, i hear it’s a very nice place to live & pretty social. not too sure on the details, though.

I personally wouldn’t go for it. You would have the best time as a freshman in Warren Towers, West, or Towers. I lived in Towers and thought it was a good mix of social activity and quietness.

The problem with Myles and Danielsen isn’t really their distance. I know the poster above me said that you would have to take the T everywhere, but I don’t know about that. I come from Myles a lot and never take the T… I just leave 5-10 minutes earlier than I would if I were leaving from Towers. But anyway, the problem with those dorms is that there is generally a lot less camaraderie between you and your floormates. In the more freshmen dorms, floor events in which you do things with people on your floor are common, and you’ll be with other freshmen to mingle with.

I agree with cj02 completely. To be honest, freshman housing isn’t really a big deal. Choose Warren, West or Towers and if you don’t get what you want make the best of it because whichever of those three you get you will still have a great freshman experience.

I personally wouldn’t recommend living in Towers as a freshman. I am currently a freshman and I regret not living in Warren or West. My floor is completely antisocial. I have literally never met anyone who lives on my floor, not even the people that live next to me. I can’t say that every floor in Towers is as bad as mine, but it seems that the general consensus is that Towers is not a very social place. However, it is very quiet, so if you’re really into studying you might like it. If you do get put in Towers it’s not the end of the world, you could end up having a great experience. I think a lot of it depends on your RA, mine pretty much doesn’t exist, so there were never any events to get to know the girls on my floor. Personally I would not put Towers first, but there are perks (better dining hall than Warren, quiet, recently renovated…)

i heard danielsen is very social and its majority is freshman…I do not really care about the distance at all…I also heard the towerrs and west are horrible dorms to stay at

Do not live in Danielsen your freshman year. You’ll have long walks to classes and will not be meeting as many freshman as you would in Warren, West, Shelton, Myles, or Towers.

I don’t agree that Towers is a bad place to live freshman year. In fact, I think it’s perfect, or at least second to Warren or West in terms of meeting people. I lived in Towers all of last year and met SOO many people. You really just have to put yourself out there, and not be afraid to go to different floors and introduce yourself to people. I think I got to know someone on almost every floor in West Tower last year and it was awesome always having friends to hang with inside the dorm.

thank you for the information…But I found this student guide to BU dorms and there it said that danielsen is mainly composed of freshman and sophomores…In there it also said that it has a welcoming and community atmosphere, in other words a very good place to bond and meet new people…Also the rooms are bigger and more comfortable than average…Do you know if that is true? Do you happen to know anyone who lived there?

I know that I’d have to walk more since its far from classes but besides this disadvantage danielsen hall seems a great place for a first year.

once again thanks for answering

Also when I looked at college ******* and looked up at the dorms section i found this: “Whatever you do, stay away from Warren Towers. It is the largest non-military dorm in the United States, and it is a freshman machine. It even resembles a factory in appearanceyou have to see it to push the analogy all the way. If you have ever seen the Pink Floyd movie, The Wall, pay attention to the scene accompanying that very songthat is it exactly. Other, smaller dorms are usually a safe bet but tend to be more secluded from campus life. If you can get a hold of a brownstone, dont give it up. They are by far the nicest living on and (in many cases) off campus.”

Is that true?

A little harsh, but true. Being in Warren made me realize I was a claustrophobe after 18 years of being alive. Worse than being underground. Low clearance, constantly squeezing past people in the hallways, the fluorescent lighting - I had a very, very negative first impression of it.

This was based off my open house visit. Put Warren under West, if not under both West and Towers.

Incoming freshman should try to stick with Warren, Towers, West, and potentially Shelton Hall. Danielson is pretty far away (10-15mins) to CAS and is filled mostly with sophomores/juniors. BU Housing reserves about 10% of all dorms for freshman, so they will have opportunities to live in brownstones, Hojo, etc. However, stick with the ones above if you can.

As a freshman in SMG, I listed my housing as 1) Warren, 2) Towers, 3) West, 4) 575 Hojo, 5) Danielson.
