Dartmouth 2015 Hopefuls

If you’re that torn between these two schools, DON’T DO ED! You may regret it! My friend was stuck between Cooper Union and Cornell for engineering but ended up doing CU ED… he is regretting it.

Just apply to both RD and see what you desire in the many months to come

^CU as in Cornell University, or CU as in Cooper Union?

why is there not a recent Dartmouth results thread? The one on this forum is from 2005…I want to gauge my chances of getting in but 2005 is a little outdated, no? (things have gotten more competitive since then I assume)

EDIT: NVM, I see that people have posted in 2010.

Dartmouth provides an abundance of admissions stats for multiple years. Here are some links for 2015 hopefuls to peruse.

^ah, thanks. I completely forgot about these stats/links.

…I fail to see the connection…

Meaning, he liked both schools and ended up changing his mind over which one he preferred. Doing RD would be a wise choice if you aren’t completely set on one school.

Who is everyone asking for the peer evaluation?

I’m asking a good friend that I’ve known for 4 years… he’s aiming for west point and a good writer and probably the most un-jealous kid that I know. I would go for a person that you know well and you know could write about who YOU are

a few words on the peer rec: you absolutely do not need to sacrifice closer personal connections for someone who is good at english. My friend is smart but english is her worst subject. she showed me her letter afterwards; it has grammar mistakes & awkward phrasing, but it is beautifully written. I think her rec was the highlight of my app. grab your best friend, they will gladly do it!

I wish to apply to Dartmouth this year, and I will be applying ED as Dartmouth is my first choice.

I intend to major in atomic physics or theoretical mathematics, and undertook teaching myself calculus last year. After being sick a significant amount of time sophomore year, I was placed into precalculus. Without taking calculus, I earned a 5 on the AB exam. I am also considering Bowdoin, Bates, Middlebury, BC, Harvard

This isn’t a chance thread.

This isn’t a chance thread

I’m applying RD! I also can’t decide who to ask for a peer rec. Deciding between my debate partner/“intellectual conversation” friend and my best friend. Each knows a different side of me.

Glasses –

I’ll impart a piece of advice, if you don’t mind: select your best friend to write your peer rec. Your teacher and guidance counselor recs will almost certainly discuss your intellectual capacity and accomplishments in debate – assuming they’re noteworthy, which I’m sure they are – but only your best friend will be able to tell the admissions committee about the time that you woke up at 7 am the morning after prom to drive him to church while the rest of his friends slept the morning away; or how you cut a mean rug; or the time you volunteered to be his wingman when no one else would; etc.

I know these are all seemingly inconsequential, meaningless stories, but I suspect that Dartmouth asks for a peer rec to see which applicants are real, exciting, friendly people who will truly contribute to the Dartmouth community. I bet your best friend would do the best job of casting you in such a light.

For the peer rec, does the information have to hand written or can it be typed out on a separate sheet of paper?

Dartmouth RD. anxious

Regarding the peer recommendation- is it better to get it from say your best friend, or from someone who has been involved in a lot of the same activities as you?

The peer recommendation should we send it by ourselves or the person who will write it??

Username13, you can type it. Helen, I don’t think it really matters. There is more information about the peer rec here: [Dartmouth Admissions Uncommonly Asked Questions: How should I send in the Peer Evaluation?](Dartmouth Admissions Uncommonly Asked Questions: How should I send in the Peer Evaluation?)
