Dartmouth essay question

There’s a prompt that says: “Describe the influence your hero has had on your life.”
I was wondering if my French teacher could count as my hero? I have already written an essay for Princeton that is pretty much the same as this topic, and I think it could fit. I just don’t know if a teacher is too weak to count as a hero. But for me, it’s the truth.

It might be useful to define “hero” as part of the essay rather than assume you and your reader share the same understanding. More than a lot of English words, “hero” has a lot of different meanings, depending on the context, and to some extent the literary sophistication of the writer.

As with all prompts, you need to decide why you think the admissions committee gave you this option. What do they hope to learn from your response?

The “who” is not as important as the “why” here. What does this choice say about you?

Make sure you aren’t making the choice because it is expedient (I.e., you’ve already written something and you want to use it). :)
