<p>…i guess sophomore summer 1st Friday is this week. Do they also have special 4th of July events planned. I am going up to visit D (she is actual rising sophomore) but mentions about some activities coming up.</p>

<p>Interesting: Did any of you students do the FSP/LSA in France or Morocco? Just wondering how safe Morocco will be. Did they stay with other families? Do the students find their own tickets to get there and did you find you needed more money than the school budgeted?</p>

<p>Have fun at the Sophomore Family Weekend! I also have a 14, and judging how fast this past year went, next summer will be here in no time! It’s nice to have her home. She’s working and enjoying her spacious room!</p>

<p>My kid did the FSP in Paris. We purchased his plane ticket on Icelandic–the cheapest we could find–with a layover in Reykjavik. S is very frugal, and I don’t really know how much money he spent, since we couldn’t afford to give him any. As little as possible! 
He stayed with a family, and had a great time. The only travelling he did outside of the program trips was a weekend train excursion to Switzerland to visit a former exchange student. Some kids travel quite a bit on either end, and that can obviously be expensive.</p>
<p>Hey Parents. My son was assigned 2 room double in Judge. Does anyone know if the rooms have closets? Floor plan gives total square footage for both rooms…anyone know approximate dimensions of rooms? Since the River dorms are farther away from main campus, where is the closest food?</p>
<p>My S was in a 3-room double in the River freshman year. It may not be relevant to 2-room doubles, but they did not have closets, instead they had wardrobes in their small living room. I see you’ve checked out the floor plans, which was going to be my suggestion…</p>

<p>Consolation is right on. Wardrobes, not closets. Plenty of space though. Even the girls who brought enough clothes to last them for a year without ever doing laundry could fit their clothes in them.</p>
<p>Closest food is technically Tuck, but DBA isn’t accepted there. Dash only. So closest real food is foco. Collis is right there as well. Hop is an extra 2-3 mins, as is Novack.</p>

<p>Depends. People do tend to share the smaller room to free up the bigger one as a common area</p>

I’m sure people have had bad home stay experiences at various points, but everyone on my trip had positive experiences. You do need to provide your own tickets, and most students travel either before or after the start of the program. I booked a ticket there and then waited to book my flight home until I’d solidified my travel plans after the trip. I don’t remember how much the school budgeted compared to how much I spent, but how much money you’ll spend is really variable. If you want to travel a lot on weekends, obviously that will be more money. If you want to eat out a lot, that will be more money. Stuff like that.</p>
<p>S has been assigned to a 2 room triple in Fahey. We looked at the floor plan and did a little reading and learned that these rooms were originally designed as 2 room doubles and made into triples recently. So, one guy will have a wardrobe instead of a closet. My question is: how are the 3 beds arranged and where is the wardrobe for the 3rd person?</p>
<p>Another question: I saw somewhere that there are opportunities to buy used dorm refrigerators from students who are leaving. Will we be able to get in on that in Sept. or is that an opportunity in June when the dorms are clearing out?</p>
<p>There is a sale in September during orientation/move-in at which a used fridge (and other stuff) can be purchased. That’s what S and his roomie did. I think they paid $25.</p>
<p>Hope everyone is having a great summer. D has been abroad all summer traveling the world, and she has met numerous Dartmouth grads. Although she is having a great time, she cannot wait to get back to Hanover. Heads up to all the parents of 14’s…sophomore family weekend for summer 2012 is July 27 to July 29th. <p>Hi Knows Nothing. My S is going into his senior year, but was in Judge third floor freshman year. He joked that he lived in Vermont but went to school in New Hampshire. He, too, had a two room double. They have some closets but they are not built in closets as I recall. The two roommates used the smaller room as a bunk bed room and the larger room was their study room and space to hang out with their friends. It worked well for them and they are now fraternity brothers.</p>
<p>Sorry, I can’t tell you much about places to eat, but I recall that Tuck business school is close by and S liked going there to eat on occasion.</p>
<p>KnowsNothing - I am also an incoming freshman with a two room double in Judge, although I am a girl. What floor is your son on? I’m on the second. Can’t wait to meet him!</p>
<p>Aloha Dartmouth Parents! Having a great summer with son ('14). He is looking forward to going back next month. What did he like the most about his freshman year? Living in the Choates, meeting his new classmates and enjoying all of the Dartmouth traditions. Least? Maybe the dining area renovations and the long lines during peak periods. We may not make it out for Sophomore summer weekend, but will be doing a Sophomore drop-off next month.</p>
