Flood waters damage Quechee covered bridge.

Wow! Thanks for this link. Water can be very scary.

Wow, its been months I think since I been on the site. Hi All. I used to get emails about updates, but haven’t received one in some time. Maybe the settings for “CC” changed.

My 14 stayed all summer and did alot with the sophomore summer students, and loved it. She came for a visit and scarily flew into Boston on Saturday night. She is going to run a doc trip and can’t wait. Moving dorms is alot of work, but doing that now.

Good luck to all the 15’s parents. D loves Dartmouth. It will be hard to leave someday.

We are going to be driving to Hanover this weekend from Ohio. We plan to take the New York Thruway (90E), and then there are a few twists and turns and we end up on US-4N and then US-4E/US-7N through Vermont. Does anyone know if these roads were affected by Irene? I’ve seen a lot of pictures from Vermont that show roads that have been completely washed away, but it’s hard to match up exactly where the problems are since we’re not familiar with the area. Any ideas?

US 4 near Rutland was severely damaged and washed out. It’s still closed from Rutland to Woodstock VT

[Vermont Agency of Transportation Traveler Information](<a href=“New England 511| 511 Traffic | Commuter Information”>New England 511| 511 Traffic | Commuter Information) look here for road conditions in VT.

Thanks for the info and link. Next question…are there acceptable detours or should we avoid the whole area? I was thinking that we could go south of Vermont through Massachusetts and get to 91N. I’m REALLY hoping we don’t add too much time to our 15 hour drive!

Hi ftg, I think going south and avoiding Vermont is a good idea. My son said 91 is fine. My '15 flies in tomorrow for her DOC trip and we will be driving up next week.

Safe travels.

US 4 is such a nice drive up from Saratoga through Woodstock, Queechee. Too bad it’s
closed. Love Queechee Gorge Village and Queechee Country Store. I’m visiting my S
end of the month and will have to go through Springfield, MA this time.

Parents who have been through graduation: which night are the dinner reservations for? Night before graduation, grad night, or other? We are considering either the Canoe Club or Simon Pearce at Quechee, assuming that it is open.

Hanover clears out immediately after graduation. We had lunch and then left. The night before graduation sororities and fraternities usually hosts parties for the families of grads.

Make reservations early. When my son graduated last June Simon Pierce was booked up entirely for 3-4 days prior to graduation as well as graduation day itself when we inquired, about a month before graduation. We wound up at Jesse’s which was fine but not what we had planned

In addition to fraternity and sorority parties for seniors and their families the night before graduation some groups host things right after, e.g. the crew teams have a BBQ at the boathouse immediately after graduation.

Try to get a schedule of the official activities as well so you don’t wind up with reservations at a time that your graduate cannot make it- they have rehearsals, group photos, awards ceremonies and others things in the final days before graduation.

This.

We had dinner Friday evening. There are a lot of activities on Saturday; class day, department receptions, parties by the sororities and fraternities along with getting up early Sunday morning to get good seats on the green.

Apparently S’s house doesn’t give a party, or at least didn’t last year. Maybe I should suggest it! I would rather something buffet-like with a cocktail hour where one can circulate than the kind of dinner with other families where you are all lined up down a long table, and can only comfortably talk to two or three people. Add restaurant noise and/or music and it is mostly a shoutfest. :(

Just got back from moving D in for her second year. It was so fun to witness the sheer excitement as friends were reunited. Football game was very fun on a beautiful fall day. It was fun to see the schmobs of 15’s. What a great place!

The site really is quite quiet this year. I was up there a few days that week but left while the game was going on. My sophomore went w/some others w/o parents. Time to reconnect.

How is the Fall Foliage? I am debating about visiting NH this weekend or the long weekend to see the leaves change. I moved to Mass. now to be a little closer. I would like to see the Homecoming game…the burning tower in person too. We’ll see.

Sophomores also have rush going on next week.

Take care all and have a great day.

We recently did the sophomore drop off. S was anxious to get back there and see his friends. After the initial move in it was clear that he wanted to meet up with all his friends. So a planned family dinner turned into a quiet parent dinner, and after some errand running to stores we left Hanover earlier than expected the next day. We were happy to see that Dartmouth was the right school for him. As parents we realized that the kid has grown up and we need to get back and build on the empty nest. Hope the football team has a great year. We will be watching this Saturday night on FoxSports.

Similar thing happened…D stayed there and worked this summer for college and loves it. She is debating going abroad, just she likes it so much. She loved being there in summer and can’t wait for her sophomore summer.

On that Saturday (move in), I was supposed to go to game w/her …but she had been with me for the rest of the week. When the other 14’s and her housemates (affinity) showed up, they ended up going to get food and game…so I headed back to Mass.

You are right…it is so great to see such happy students. It is good to know it was the right place.

Same story here also. I went to the game, but with my husband. D was with her friends in the student section. It’s so nice how happy all of the kids are. MCK, D has the same feeling about going abroad. She just doesn’t want to miss a term in Hanover, although she did go abroad this summer and loved it. Hope rush goes smoothly for everyone. They are saying it is such a large group this year that only 3/4 of the girls will get bids. Any of you parents going to homecoming?

Now that I am w/in driving distance, I am thinking about going to homecoming football game.

I wonder how many usually do rush (girls) and get in. D is hoping it goes well.

I think even they see how fast the quarters go by. My D has been very fortunate to be very involved on campus, internships, etc. She/I also like the idea of giving back…she did an ASB, etc.

I told her the 10 week quarter overseas will go by fast. Do they usually help w/flying info and booking the trip or do most go over individually? I may fly over to travel with her a bit.
Have a great night all!
