re: CC ivy participation
Looking at the number of posts relative to undergraduate enrollment, HYP are way above the others.

Posts per undergrad (aka Obsession Index)
31.52 Princeton
31.50 Yale
28.42 Harvard
19.19 Penn
18.76 Columbia
17.37 Cornell
16.96 Brown
14.66 Dartmouth

Maybe all those tight-lipped secret societies keep the number of Dartmouth posts down.

Possibly, although DC is about the same size as Princeton.

and BTW, I agree with the âObsession Indexâ analysis!

Dartmouth people are cool.

Thereâs a rumor that everytime a Dartmouth student asks someone else what their SAT scores were, a kitten dies.

So no one asks, and everyone just keeps verrrrrrrry cool.

Change of topic: Registering a car for student in Hanover. Just found out that for out of state student they must obtain a NH drivers license if they want to take car out of state for more than 24 hours. What happened to Live Free or die?

Apparently it died.

Apparently so! So I guess no students ever take weekend ski trips across the river in Vermont! or drive home to Boston, Conn, NY or NJ for weekendsâŠI canât imagine this. Maybe this is to discourange students from registering their out of state cars in NH.

Another change of topic:
What do you think about student insurance, similar to renterâs insurance? Iâm pretty sure my daughterâs stuff is covered on our homeowners policy, but we have a high deductible. I just looked at the College Student Insurance website and got a quick quote and itâs very inexpensive, if it really works! Does anyone else have this? My daughter is going abroad next quarter which is what got me thinking more about it.

Magnum, I used to know someone who lived in Brooklyn and had a car registered in NH somehow. Obviously, this was to obtain lower insurance rates. So most likely that is why they want more evidence that the person is actually a NH resident.

1stOTG, yes we have the student insurance, and it is very inexpensive and gives us piece of mind, especially for the laptop and bike. I think there is a $50 deductible. Fortunately we havenât used it yet. Although we came pretty close when his bike was âborrowedâ when he was a first year and later found by a friend at another dorm.

Consolation, on the car registration issue, that must be it because I heard insurance rates for the Hanover area is pretty inexpensive as opposed to an urban area. We will see. Stay tuned as I go through this process next month.

Thanks, Magnum. Itâs nice to hear that someone I âknowâ has purchased it. Okay, I feel like I know you and our kids are both '14s!

Sure, happy to help another parent. Hope to run into you at soph summer. PM me for contact info for the meet up at Collis Friday night.

Where will your D go for study abroad? S is staying on campus due to new research projects with profs.

Hey all 14 parents, Magnum, Dumbo, Firstonetogo, we are looking forward to seeing everyone at family weekend. We are meeting Friday evening at Collis? We will have three younger sons in tow.

Our '14 son was eager to return to campus after a 10 day break back home. He cabin-camped with some friends for a few days and has moved into his fraternity house. He sounded very happy when I spoke with on Sunday. We are looking forward to seeing Hanover in the summer, seeing all of you and meeting his new friends.

Congrats to all of the '12 parents! Time is flying and the Spring of '14 will be here before we know it.

Hey LHM4! OK '14 parents, hope to see you there at Collis Friday July 27, maybe after you have dinner with your '14, maybe 8:30 ish? I think there is usually some music event at Collis at 9. PM me for contact info!

LHM4, looking forward to seeing you again also. Magnum, that sounds great for a meeting time. I love that sophomore family weekend is during the summer. I was up there a couple of weeks ago helping my D move into her house, and the weather was beautiful. One of these times I really hope to add a few days and explore Maine and Vermont. I think the kids are all sure that 12X will be their best term yet. It seems each term gets better and better, which is hard to believe as freshman fall was incredible. I just wish that time would slow down a bit. LHM, you are very fortunate to have 3 younger kids. See you all soon!

Reposting here âadvice to parents of 16sâ at recommendation of another:

As you come to visit, pick one hotel/motel/inn and stick with it. Many places reward repeat visitors at graduation time. Do you realize how hard it might be to get reservations in June 2016? Start building your relationships now. (Most wonât start taking reservations until July 2015 â and that will be here before you know it!)

If youâre driving from Logan, I have a set of driving directions (to and from) that I think are better than anything you can find on the Dartmouth site. (Iâm the anal sort who wants to be sure when to be in which lane, etc.) If thereâs enough interest, Iâll post them. You can PM me unless and until I reach the limit â which will also be a decent measure of how much interest there is.

I swear I had a third thing, but canât remember it now.

Cheers, About the Same (parent of a '13 and already missing Hanover)

Hi All

Do you know what percentage of parents usually go to Sophomore Summer?

Yes, how many parents go to Sophomore Summer parents weekend? Is it worth it if you go visit campus alot? Where you all staying, I didnât check the Hanover Innâ is it open again?

PS: I used to get emails that said when a REPLY was made. How come that stopped? Unless I log in, I never hear anything. I check CC less frequently, so I tend to miss some messages.

WaitâŠdoes my daughter HAVE to change her license and registration? Iâm sure she will take an occasional weekend trip out of state. How would they enforce such a thing?

To find out about Soph summer, you probably need to check with the organizers. [Sophomore Family Weekend](<a href=âHome | Collis Center for Student Involvementâ>Home | Collis Center for Student Involvement) I saw a copy of last yearâs schedule and it was much like First Year Family weekend. Somehow I think it will be less attended than the First year weekend. Itâs really just an excuse for helicopter parents like us to drop in on our kids. I figure once they graduate we wonât be visiting Hanover anymore. So we justify the trip as a rite of passage for us as Dartmouth parents. I suppose there are others just like us so we will see you there.

On the non-resident car registration rules, I have no idea how they would enforce it, but I will find out soon.
