I have no idea what percentage of parents go to SFW, but we went, and loved it. I would say that we enjoyed it much more than the freshman weekend, possibly because S was more at ease in his environment. We stayed at the Chieftain Motor Inn. I love the laid back, old-fashioned atmosphere of the place, and it is comfortable, clean, and has a pool, which we really appreciated in July. (On graduation weekend, the owners rented a van and ran a free shuttle to campus, which was great.)

Parent of two Dartmouth students. No one they know got a NH license. My kids registered cars with their MA license. Walk around and look at the student parking lots. All the cars with out of state registration. Think someone misunderstood something!

Parents of graduates, has your grad–or you–received a yearbook yet? Or any of the graduation pictures? Any knowledge of when they should arrive? I’m really wondering mostly about the yearbook, since I am not completely convinced that S and H actually managed to order one. :)

The last couple of years, the yearbooks have come in the fall I seem to recall.

I liked Sophomore Summer weekend better than Freshman Parent Weekend. The entertainment wasn’t as varied because many of the student groups aren’t on campus, but the tours put on by the university were wonderful!

OK parents of 14s, the schedule is out! See you there. Friday night July 27 at Collis. [Sophomore Family Weekend](<a href=“Home | Collis Center for Student Involvement”>Home | Collis Center for Student Involvement)

^^Be sure to take the Special Collections tour of the Rauner Library. That’s what I liked best about Sophomore Parents Weekend. If you look calm and responsible to them they will even let you hold and handle the old books - including an illuminated medieval manuscript and a Shakespeare First Folio.

^^^ Yes! Yes! Yes! And it’s air-conditioned. (Although, if the tour is crowded, the little room can still get warm.) Heck, just go to Rauner, period, and check out the collection(s). I happen to be a great fan of a not-that-well-known author of juvenile sports fiction: one Ralph Henry Barbour (blame my grandfather). Only after D had entered did I discover that Rauner has a complete collection of his books (I think it’s a Dr. Seuss derivative). And you can have them bring you one and read them (only there, of course)!! Who knows what you might discover?

Agree that the Rauner special collection tour is a must. Looking forward to seeing Hanover in the summer and waving to my office from the Class of 1966 webcam.

Getting so excited for this coming weekend! We are heading up on Thursday, and we will definitely take the advice here and include the Rauner special collection tour in our schedule. Any other parents volunteer for the career networking thing on Saturday morning? It sounds like a great idea, and it will be fun to talk to so many different kids, so I signed up. I’ll see you all Friday night at Collis!

On the Dartmouth Coach to NYC. Nice new bus with 3 across leather seats and wi-fi. Refreshments too. Great to see everyone and meet new parents. All very positive about the Dartmouth experience. My S’14 was so busy with studies we did not get much face time. Enjoyed the lectures and canoeing on the Connecticut River. Sophomore summer is a nice concept. Halfway there with the DC experience. Checked hotel rates for graduation of DGS D’13. Yowsa. $500 night and up. Considering how much time I actually spend in my hotel room when I am visiting I might just stay in the dorms! $42 night. Aloha -MPI

Hello all - very new to the site and DC! S is a '16 and we are thrilled, to say the least! SO much to do it seems - things to get, plan, travel to book, etc. Just wanted to thank all current posters for the valuable information they have shared. Here we go…

ColoMom, welcome to the Dartmouth family. I am sure your son will be as obsessed with the place as the rest of our kids (and us). Just got back from family weekend. It was so fun to meet up with Magnum, Longhornmom and their families. Magnum, YIKES on the graduation hotel rates. The weekend was fantastic. We participated in many of the official functions, and all were great. We ate at Simon Pierce for the first time. It was lovely and delicious. Can’t wait to plan my next trip up there!

Welcome colomom16! I enjoyed meeting a whole new set of parents this past weekend. All good. Wanted to interview each and every one of them to see if our DC experience was unique. It’s not. Read up on the school and enjoy the ride.

I posted this on the general parents forum, but I thought some Dartmouth parents might be able to help! Thanks!

Hi CC parents! I’m hoping you can help me. D just accepted a fall internship in Purchase, NY. She wants to live in Stamford, CT or possibly Manhattan (if she is near Grand Central Station). We are from the midwest, and I know absolutely nothing about housing in these areas. If she lives in Stamford, we will ship her car up there.

Can anyone help me:

Any help or feedback would be much appreciated! Thank you!

I just booked a hotel room in White River Junction for my D’s white coat ceremony at the end of September. I will be coming up from the south (see my screenname) and my mother from the west coast. We will be there for 3 days, and will have all day Thursday and Friday to amuse ourselves. We are open to all suggestions, though I think my mom would be more open to ones in the Hanover/VT area as opposed to the campus ones. I have compiled some restaurant faves of from this thread, but would love to hear more.

D has been in Hanover for 5 days now. She has had a class dinner at Salubre, visited the CVS, Post Office and worked out at the gym. Two days of class and so far so good.
She also got lost walking. :(

I’m looking forward to being part of the Hanover parent community for the next four years and thank you all in advance for your help.
