Wow time is flying. I have crawled through all these posts over the past three years and greatly appreciate all your inputs. You can’t beat experience. S is a 15 and my wife and I are able to sneak up to Hanover three times a year just to take in some of what the school and area has to offer. S absolutely loves the place and the friendships he has made. So many enriching opportunities are available if you seek them. They don’t seek you out. I mean where else can you go and jump in a frozen lake for the fun of it. My preference in February would be in a pond on Magnum’s side of the water! S did it for the third time this past weekend and I told him he is a nut. He loves running into old alums that tell stories of the old days. He says their eyes really light up. One day he too will be that guy. For now he is looking forward to a term off as he has gone straight through since his sophomore year. His academics have been as rigorous as you should expect from Dartmouth. I was moved to post after reading what appeared to be Magnum signing off and realized I enjoyed what he and others have had to say over the years and wanted to thank you all for keeping this going.

Aloha greenthumb, and thanks for jumping on board. I won’t sign off until the last posting from the Green at graduation and they pry my carpel tunnel thumbs off my phone! Or after the final breakfast at Lou’s before packing up, or last dinner at Simon Pearce, or after shopping for Alum stuff at the Coop, or picking up final items at CVS, well you get the idea. I have enjoyed my 4 years of fellowship on this thread and yes, I will miss you all. Thanks Dumbo for representing us all at Winter Carnival, but I missed your post where you did the polar bear swim? Greenthrumb’s S did it all 3 years! Bleeding Green already, good for him. My D did it as a grad student, so I totally missed this opportunity. My S posted a picture of himself on the Winter Carnival snow throne in his surf shorts, tank top and rubber slippers. Chip off the old block. But I’m sure he had the down jacket safely nearby. Always enjoy stopping by this thread and getting updates. Have a safe week. Looking forward to your sharing greenthumb!

My daughter did the occum pond plunge last Friday. I think she and the other 50 med school students and faculty that did it must have missed hypothermia 101! My daughter has decided to do an extra research year so I will be forced to visit Hanover for 5 years instead of 4! :)

^^ Such a hardship. I feel for you (you lucky thing, you).

GA2012MOM Glad to hear that your daughter is still enjoying her time there. I remember our daughters met. My daughter is in Med school now too, but in a slightly warmer climate! My son is busy interviewing at grad schools and skiing. Tough senior year. All his buddies are gearing up for either Med school or careers in business, so even though the school is taking a lot of hits from unhappy people, it is pretty unanimous in his circles that it has been a great time, and the Dartmouth degree has great value and is something they will always treasure. I watched the ski bus unload yesterday on the Class of 1966 webcam to see if I could spot him. Everyone looked the same all bundled up in the snowy conditions. I know I am paying for all of this, but I think I received more than my money’s worth.

The '14 Graduation packets arrived, today. If you are reserving dorm space, do not dawdle (according to what we heard from the development team). We have reserved a house, but we will also get a room on campus for staging. Parking? Good luck.

Wow, just got my packet today too! The dorms cannot be reserved yet, maybe mid-March, keep checking. I will see you guys there on the Green.

I didn’t get my packet yet. Anything urgent in there I need to take care of immediately?

it’s all here, except the on-line reservations for on-campus housing. <a href=“Commencement | Dartmouth”>Commencement | Dartmouth;

Magnum, didn’t know your daughter was going to med school. We can go through the match process together since they will be in the same year! Glad to know I am not the only one stalking the webcams for a glimpse of the kids! Lucky you Magnum, at least you were watching for him to get off the ski bus and didn’t get a picture like I did of D in the ski patrol basket heading for the hospital.

I am heading to Hanover for her spring break in 4 weeks, sure hope there is some severe thawing by then!

Thanks Magnum! I still didn’t get my packet. I have hotel rooms reserved, so I’m good there. Appreciate the link.

Today I drove my daughter to the airport to fly back to school for the last time! I can’t believe she only has one quarter left! And to think that she had never been on a plane prior to starting college, and now she’s an old pro. What an amazing time this has been for her, and for us. Looking forward to being in Hanover for graduation.

Going to Hanover for 5 days next week for my daughters spring break. She says daytime might be around 40 degrees, but I won’t care if it is minus 20. I haven’t seen her in 13 months and don’t care if I have to see her under any conditions.

Ga2012mom

Have a great trip, eat at Lou’s for me. All the best to you and your daughter!

Will eat at Lou’s for you Magnum.
anything special I should order in your honor?

ooohhh, for breakfast have the diet special corned beef hash. Or for lunch the triple bypass Pizza burger, stuffed with mozarella cheese and pepperoni. Yum. I won’t be able to sleep tonight just thinking about it. My son is moving west for grad school. I am so going to miss Hanover. Sit in on some classes too, always impressive to see those kids in action.

All those sound yummy! Not sure about sitting in on classes. #1, it is her spring break, thus no classes and #2, I admittedly wouldn’t understand a single thing in a medschool ciriculum (sp?) I will be meeting the boyfriend for the first time, wearing onesies and watching movies with my daughter, taking her shopping at the co-op and having meals and cocktails at all the local spots. Most of all, just being there with her. Be prepared magnum, medschools take no prisoners. Kids are overworked and breaks as you know them are no more. It is a bitter sweet tradeoff. 8->

Yup, graduate and professional schools are serious endeavors. So parents of undergraduates, tell your students to enjoy their 4 years, because after that, the real work begins. And as you know, its no picnic out there after that either.

Welcome parents of '18s. Hope you learn a lot from this thread like I have.

For you Helicopter parents grounded outside of Hanover. Just started following @HanoverDailyPix on Twitter and it is kind of fun to get a random slice of each day on or about campus. 50 days to graduation.

Hi all! Was just wondering if all of you veterans can give me some advice about parking for parents weekend? We’re staying fairly close but not close enough to walk. Parent’s weekend is next Friday (our first)! Thanks for any advice. We were just up there for Easter dinner with our ds and it was absolutely gorgeous. We are in Ct so have made a few trips this year. Love this school and our son is absolutely loving his school Congratulations to those that have children that are graduating!!
