Dartmouth Parents Thread

Congrats to the P’s and the class of 2014. Have an amazing time at graduation!! Cant wait to hear about it. There is something to be said about having the early risers go out to the green and reserve seats for you. So cool that you now have the jumbotron

Aloha Dartmouth! On the Green in sunny Hanover. It’s going to be a hot one, but it is what we waited for! Congratulations parents!

Great day for a parent. Wonderful speeches, looking forward to seeing them on YouTube without the heat. Crazy time afterward as the 14s all tried to find each other. Then spent a couple hours moving the grad out of his dorm. Dinner at Pine at the Hanover Inn to cap the long but totally amazing conclusion to an unforgettable 4 years in the granite of New Hampshire. Coming up this week, road trip with son to California! Aloha from Hanover, -MPI

Back from Hanover after an absolutely perfect weekend. The weather was gorgeous, and all of the events were just wonderful. Personally, I was so sad driving out of town. I don’t think it has quite hit D yet. Funniest moment was D and friends jumped in the river in their caps and gowns after graduation. Very cute! On the drive to the airport, D couldn’t express enough how Dartmouth was the ultimate college experience and the 100% perfect fit for her. She loved her 4 years there and made many lifelong friends. I’m impressed that all of the kids moving to NYC have already formed a group me, so they can all keep in touch.

Magnum, thank you again for the Hawaiian coffee! I needed it this am, and it was absolutely delicious!

For future parents, we went to the Hanover Inn brunch in the ballroom right after graduation (and pictures). It was really easy…a beautiful buffet so very quick, which was nice for my hungry parents and inlaws. Simon Pierce was wonderful, but they did not give out grad gifts as they have in the past. Just a perfect weekend!

A belated congratulations to the 14’s and their parents. One more year to go for our 15 and it has gone by very fast. I can’t thank the posters enough for all their updates and tips through out the years which allowed me personally to look ahead. Already trying to lock down graduation plans for next year. Now just because your S and D have graduated and you are moving on feel free to come back as an “CCDP Alum” and post some follow-ups. Magnum I know the Kona coffee is superb back home and you have Jacques Bakery in Kauai but deep down you will miss the dirt cowboy and Lous! Many thanks 14 posters.

Thanks Greenthumb! I still be there for you parents. Aloha from route 70 somewhere in Illinois…following the sun!

Four years went by so fast for my D and for us. Loved graduation weekend. Biggest surprise for me was that all of the seats are pretty good. We traded being a little closer to the stage for shade. No regrets.

Good life choice. I tried to persuade my wife to sit under the trees outside Reed last year and watch the screen but lost the non-argument.

Half of our party of 4 had retreated under the trees long before S got his diploma. :)

HI ALL,
SInce you all are probably moved on, thought you may know.
Did anyone use private student loans, and what were the best companies, ones that have a release option for the parent eventually.

Thought you may know…

We paid a visit to Hanover yesterday, spending an afternoon with S who is living and working nearby. It is just as lovely as ever. And the food at the Canoe Club was outstanding. I must say, I do love Hanover.

We all agreed that those who say Hanover is a tiny town in the back of beyond must never have been to a real one. :)

Hi all. My S is a B+ student with a 32 ACT and 9 AP courses by the end of senior year at a strong private school. He may have a chance to play a sport at Dartmouth, but he is concerned that he is not “smart” enough to do well there. Should we be worried about that? Our D attends a very competititve non-Ivy university and frankly has rather mediocre grades there. We were thinking that our S may be better off attending a university where he could really do well, but, on the other hand, how could he pass up a chance to attend an Ivy? Thoughts?

If he gets in, he should go. He will be fine, there are brilliant kids there and there is also a lot of support. Who is to say that your son is not brilliant with a B+ average and 32 ACT? Go for it.

Hi all! Does anyone know when sophomore parents weekend will be? I can’t believe i’m even posting this! It seems like yesterday (and around this time) my son was applying. Do you know where i can find those dates? Anyway, I wish all of the children the best if they are going ED. This was a very stressful time for my son two years ago but seeing that “congratulations” on the e-mail that day was one of the best days of his life. He loves this school! And boy does time fly!! Thanks for any info that you can give.

Yes, time flies. My ‘14 is an adult now. Sophomore parents’ weekend was in Mid-July if I recall. It was fun, I think we went out in a canoe in the river, and just had a great visit. Check out the website here, no date listed yet. <a href=“Home | Undergraduate Deans Office”>Home | Undergraduate Deans Office;

Hey, I found it for you. July 24 -26 <a href=“Home | Collis Center for Student Involvement”>Home | Collis Center for Student Involvement;

Hi, All; Does anyone know the moving company in Hanover/West Leb that will pack D belongings and haul to the storage in the basement of her dorm building? Moving out until 2015 spring term. Thanks in advance!

D must pack her own belongings no matter what option she uses.

While she can use controlled storage, when my D when my D was off (summers and abroad) O just contacted Hanover True Value to store her stuff. Hey even came to pick up her stuff and shipped it home when she graduated.

Book hotels early. If you have a posse, consider vrbo or airbnb. Lots of great options at reasonable prices within 25 minutes of campus. Even if you do not have a posse, it might beat dynamic hotel pricing.

Congrats to all the 14s. Although my daugter is not there for UG just there for 5 years of medschool, she is still a part of the dartmouth community. She interacts with all the UGs at the gym, the pool, as well as all the coffee shops, restaurants and cultural events at the school. Oh, I can’t forget the library…she really does like the library to study. Anyways, I still have 3 more years to visit Hanover, and if I ever win the lotto, I am buying a fabulous house for all alum parents to stay out to get their Hanover fix!
