I was accepted into the PhD program at Dartmouth but I was wondering if I should accept now or wait until I recieve an offer from another top school? Dartmouth is known for its undergraduate education so I am not sure if taking an offer from Dartmouth for grad school would be a good thing or a bad thing.

Is Dartmouth’s grad school any good? Are the career services and alumni network helpful to graduate students?

It is rather surprising that you would apply and be accepted to a Math PhD program without knowing whether the grad school is “any good”?

What other “top schools” have you applied to? I am not aware of any top math PhD programs that have yet to notifiy applicants - it’s very late.

What is your math background and what hat type of math are you planning on pursuing? This would have a material impact on the program you choose.

I don’t believe they are a Tier I school. Tier I schools are schools that receive a 3.0+ ranking out of 5. It was surprising to me when I heard it, but it is true. Dartmouth is pretty low in the rankings in terms of math PhD’s, there are a lot of other public schools and private schools that are higher ranked.

Again, Dartmouth GRAD school in general might be good, but their math department is not strong.

I must stress, you asked if you should wait to see if you get an offer from another top school, Dartmouth math is NOT a top program. Please be aware of the strength and reputation of the program. They are generally considered a mid range school, like in the 40s and 50s ranked. Top programs are generally considered top 20-25 for math phd programs.

How did you just get acceptance to Dartmouth grad BTW? I thought all grad decisions had to be sent in by April 15th. Is this for Spring admissions?
