I, too, just saw this on the news. Terrible. The city is in shock. Her apartment is right in the heart of the student area, across the street from a dorm. Many, many people knew her at Berkeley High, where she was politically active, and she apparently was on scholarship at Dartmouth. By all accounts a warm, bright, and talented kid with a big future.

D received the message via blitz earlier this evening from one of their classmates and is just heartbroken as Meleia was of her friends and D said a truly wonderful person. The news of her death is a shock to the Dartmouth community especially to the 07’s.

She opted out of sophmore summer to work on this project because it was something that she truly believed in.

yeah, it’s pretty unreal since i friended her on facebook (was into her interests, too) and she friended me back just a week ago… and now she’s gone and i will never get to know her personally (i’m a 09). not in this life anyway. it’s heartbreaking.

The idea that she may have been killed by “friendly fire” is unreal, or maybe it’s too real.

Meiea appearantly was very loyal to the community she came from (the meaner streets of Berkeley) as she never forgot or disrespected the people she grew up with. Unfortunately, when she possibly called her “brother in spirit” for protection from the punks who were harassing her and her friends, he may have blindly shot off his “baretta” and then ran away like a punk!
