Dartmouth Used Car- recommendation...

Looking to get an inexpensive used car for summer job for student. Any suggestions in the Hanover area that you may have bought a car? Visiting Hanover soon.

If you have the courage - capital auto auction in manchester sells donated vehicles a couple times a week, some can be quite nice! Takes a whole day, and there’s a slightly greater risk factor - but dirt cheap. Otherwise do a local search on ebay motors or look on craigslist.

thanks so much.

All the '11s who got cars for high school graduation and have now accepted jobs in Manhattan will be blitzing out adds for them come spring. Mostly subarus and priuses. If you don’t find anything you like its a good idea to keep this in mind.

GREEN99 thanks. I will have my student start to watch, maybe post a message at school. Really need to find something.

You don’t need a car at Dartmouth

My son did not have a car for his first three years at Dartmouth but last summer, after his junior year, he got a summer internship in Lebanon and asked if he could have a car. We bought him a 3-year old XTrerra. Now, as a senior, he likes being able to offer rides to his friends after having to depend on others for rides for three years. I’m really glad we were able to do it.

It is really for the summer/summer job, then for future. It is only me/my daughter and with only 1 car and I work, she can’t get to work, etc. without one. They don’t really have mass transit where we live…

While it’s true you don’t need a car at Dartmouth … it’s really nice to have one. There’s a lot to do in the upper valley and beyond, and depending on others for rides isn’t always the most fun. Good luck!
