1) How common are interracial couples/dating? I’m really interested in this, but I fear NC’s southern status…I don’t want to be looked down on or shot by supremacists…lol.

2) Is dating common? Or is it all about hookups?

3) Where’s the best place to meet single women?

Dating of any sort is relatively uncommon, so I wouldn’t go so far as to call it common, but nobody would blink an eye. Both of the guys I dated were of a different race/ethnicity.

Last time I checked, Duke had no chapters of the KKK active on campus. Really, some of these stereotypes are absurd. Would you be worried to go to NYC because you might be shot by Italian mobsters?

Common, not really. Unheard of, definitely not. It’s there and very feasible; you just have to try a bit.

I’ll let someone else take #3…I have no experience in that arena. People meet all sorts of places, though - gym, class, extracurriculars, even the bus. It’s really not that hard to meet people.

I do not live in Durham, but in a larger city in NC. Interracial dating is a non-issue. Like warbler, I agree you need to do away with the stereotypes. Living in the 21st century is not limited to California and the NE - fortunately for us in the South :)

Take a look at some of the Durham Blogs - in North Carolina it is as rom828 said the 21st century. Here is one blog that has links to other Durham blogs:

frenchhorngirl - go to google maps - search for whole foods market+durham and the map shows the location of the dorms on East Campus and many of the shops to the west of East Campus are labeled.

You can also use the street view option to see the outside of many of the buildings on East Campus. The Google Streetview Camera Car has taken photos from all public entrances on campus.

Sorry John117 - did not mean to steal your thread - but really didn’t you know about the accolades Durham has received:
