Sadly, a man from the audience was permanently injured in this illusion, and David was forced to reveal the illusion in court. I happened to have been selected to be in that illusion when he was touring our town and we were int he audience. It was fun. I feel terrible for the injured audience member. Anyone like magic and illusions? Usually they are harmless…
I’ve never seen it, but from the description, it doesn’t seem like much of an illusion if the people in it are just led off stage behind the curtain–I mean, you must then know how it’s done, so anyone who’s ever been in it could describe it. But maybe I’m missing something.
Correct. I know how its done, and there isn’t much to it. But from the front it looks like we all vanished. I would think thats the beauty of illusions- they look complicated but they. are simple.
It had to do with our holding flashlights aimed outward from behind the curtain so it looked like we were still there when in fact we were being ushered off stage. He told us if anyone asked how it was done, we should say… (of course the correct response is “its magic”, but I chose to be humorous and say “bite me”. He first thought I told him to bite me 
But then he realized I was kidding.
We all got autographed photos and he talked to us off stage where we’d been shuttled while the lights were still being flashed around from behind the curtain (it was several years ago so , but IIRC this was the gist of it). In my town we didnt appear at the back of the theater, the show was just over and we were expected to leave the theater (which was a challenge as my purse was at my seat!) It is truly tragic that someinw was seriously injured and he didnt know for a year until he was sued.
That is so cool, @jym626! I had read an article about the illusion, but how were you ushered off the platform? The article I saw (embarassingly, I think it was on the Daily Mail website) had a link to a video and the platform where all of the disappearing audience members were sitting was open on all 4 sides - I couldn’t figure out how they got off of it.
Well, it does sound like you had a fascinating experience. But yeah, awful that the guy was injured.
We were just taken on walkways backstage, and then when the illusion was over and everyone was leaving the theater, they had us go down outside metal stairs.
