Hi!
I’m an incoming freshman at Davidson (so very excited), definitely planning to major in something related to the humanities, and I’m quite interested in the Humanities program (for anyone who’s not familiar, it’s two semesters for three credits, joint lecturing, etc.). I’d love if anyone who has previously taken the class could share their experience?
More specifically:
How heavy is the workload for the class, really?
Do you feel like you missed opportunities to take other classes because it’s a two semester commitment?
What did you like (and dislike!) about the program as a whole?
Thanks so much for your help!

My son took the 2 semester Humes sequence and would recommend it. He noted there was a lot of required reading and a decent amount of writing but the Humes professors really seemed to look out for the students – grading was comparatively easy by Davidson standards and a nice GPA boost since it was the equivalent of 3 classes. His writing skills also improved noticeably. He enjoyed the comradery and friendships made among the Humes students. Humes used to have a special orientation program which began before the rest of the first years arrived on campus (not sure that is still the case).
And big congrats on Davidson! It is a very special place to spend 4 years!
