Davidson RD 2024

@jfilbey follow kerriloo’s instructions. Thats what I did and my D financial aid letter was there.

@neonpinklime @jfilbey @Kerriloo My son’s portal doesn’t have that link. In fact, we never had any FA docs checklist in the portal-- did any of you? I know we did the FAFSA & CSS & IDOC for Davidson…but there was never a checklist in his portal like at every other school he applied to (save one).

see see my post at #35

@Steglitz90 and @Kerriloo on my son’s portal there is nothing else listed there where brochure tab and acceptance are nothing under neath just the two tabs.

@jfilbey I would email the financial aid office. I sent them an email yesterday morning (Saturday) and they answered me by the afternoon.

D was accepted. On her letter that came in the mail there is a handwritten comment “Congrats on being a Presidential Scholar!” but no other explanation of what that means and no mention of merit scholarship. Did anyone else get that or know what it means? I can’t find anything on the website.

How many people have/have not received their Financial Aid decision?

@jugetyjig I think Davidson is releasing decisions about merit scholarships in early April. Congratulations to your D on being a presidential scholar which will probably be some kind of aid but certainly an honor.

We’re wondering if we will receive any news about merit scholarships in early April as well. My D has some decisions to make. She was admitted to UNC, NC State, Davidson, Duke, and Princeton. She is taking the next few weeks to consider.

@Voiceonthecoast I’m curious what your daughter decided. My daughter is a junior and is interested in Davidson, but we are in a similar situation to you financially. Plus, my daughter’s high school only allows students to apply to eight private colleges, so we have to try to find schools that are most likely to award merit aid. Did your daughter receive any merit money from Davidson? Or from anywhere else?

@marshmallo Davidson does not give a lot of merit. Have you read their page on merit awards? Our S19 applied two years ago (1540 SAT, NMF, artist, athlete, lots of leadership and rigor, all 5s on APs, multivariable calc senior year). His high school nominated him for the Belk Scholarship. He didn’t get past the first round. He did get accepted with no merit. He’s now at Bowdoin which had a 7% acceptance rate in RD for his year so he was a very competitive candidate for merit at other schools.

If you add up all of the kids who get merit from Davidson, I think it’s something like 30 kids max. They don’t give merit except for their named scholarships. If getting merit is a priority, I don’t think I would waste one of your eight spots on Davidson.

@marshmallow

From Davidson’s website about the Presidential Scholarship. It’s for URMs.

Applicant must demonstrate outstanding academic achievement and leadership and will contribute diverse cultural or socioeconomic perspectives to the classroom"

@marshmallo S19 did get $25,000/year merit at Kenyon, Grinnell, and Dickinson. Maybe check those out. I think Kenyon said it’s about their top 10% of applicants get merit. I’m not sure how many kids get merit at Grinnell or Dickinson but you can look at their Common Data Sets to see.
