Sometimes the intense heat makes up for what winter lacked. :(

But it’s for all dorms in general, even those with air conditioners! If it’s 90 degrees in April, Rutgers have the right to not turn on the air since some law states that air conditioning can be provided only if (1) the heat is intense for a certain number of days in a row – I think 5 days – and (2) it’s May.

I remember my freshman year when I lived in Metzger (one of the BAMM dorms), there was this week towards the end of April that was intensely hot! But Rutgers refused to turn on the air conditioner. Only hot air was blowing out! My roommate and I along with the girls across the hallway opened our windows wide and left our doors open just so we could have some sort of cross wind occur to keep us cool.

I’m also wondering how’s the closet space with the wardrobe thing that comes with every Davidson dorm room? Are there study spots around the dorm or near by?

And how’s the dorm in terms of socializing and making friends (with people in Davidson and BAMM) since its away from other freshman dorms? A

Well, you have the student center which is only a 3 minute walk (or a bus ride if you feel lazy like me). Many great spots inside of there to study! And there is the LSM (Library of Science and Medicine). You’ll need to take the H bus, which conveniently stops in front of Davidson since there’s a stop there. People also study in the ARC building (Alison Road Classroom Building).

Closet space is decent. The ones that are actually in the wall provide a more space, but I wouldn’t say Davidson’s are that bad. If you’re like me and like to bring a lot of clothes, you can also bring a set of plastic drawers for your closet. They should be able to fit one wide one or two smaller ones. This and the 5 or 6-drawer that the room also comes with should be enough for anyone.

Mushaboom’s pretty much got it down with all the normal study spots on Busch campus. It gets busier when finals roll around and you’ll start having to get creative with that when all the desks at LSM and ARC are full.

Davidson and BAMM definitely hang out with each other. You’ll make friends from your classes and have friends from high school that live all over the place so it’s not a problem. It’s just more of a hassle to get back and forth when buses stop running and it’s cold outside. The A, from Davidson to BAMM, stops running at 9 and the H, from BAMM to Davidson stops running at 2 am.

Mhmm, living @ Davidson doesn’t sound so bad :P

Btw, any chance you guys know how many people there are per building (there’s only one floor right?)… Just curious. And is there a decent mirror in the dorms or should I bring one?

Approximately 340 students, according to the housing site. So per building might be 85. About 40 rooms? That seems like a lot for one floor though, but I guess it is possible!

Just an estimated guess :)

I don’t think any dorm is necessarily bad. Some kids come in worried because they didn’t get their first choice campus, but your living experience is not just about what campus or dorm you received, but about the people and interaction amongst each other. I knew two kids who were seriously disappointed that they were put to live in the Quads on Livingston. They ended up having a BLAST there because of the people.

Of course, no one wants to live in a roach-infested, cramped, hot room. But most if not all of the dorms at Rutgers are live-able. Even those in the “better” dorms experience something like lack of air conditioning.

Yeah, there’s 46-48 rooms per building in Davidson and Mushaboom’s right about the experience. I didn’t like Davidson because I didn’t connect with the people in my building and consequently spent most of my time in the Quads which people also hate.

It’s not like you can’t leave your building to chill somewhere else. You’ll have a lot of time as a freshmen to explore. Freshmen year is awesome anyway if only for the fact that everything is so new to you.

How many showers are in the davidson halls? I’m going to be living in Davidson D, which I think is all girls, so I was wondering if there’s going to be a long wait for the showers?
