Dazed and Confused Transfer Student

Hi, here’s the crburns backstory:

Did ■■■■■■ in high school, undiagnosed major depressive/anxiety disorder, yay! (this is me saying, let’s not get into that, it still hurts)

Took 1.5 years off school, awesome, went to the doctor, got diagnosed, got treatment, life is good.

Started at a state school. Rocking it, 4.0, awesome test scores (SAT 2200), well liked by teachers, multiple English Lit papers in the queue for publication.

Being ambitious, I find myself wishing to transfer out of my rural state and into the big leagues. Wat do?

I’m a Poli-Sci major, and I’m likely going to be in school for the rest of my life, seeing as every one of my teachers has stopped me and said, “You realize that you’re an academic, don’t you?” I also secretly wish to combine the personas of Karl Johnson’s Wittgenstein and Robin Williams’ Keating into a golden mishmash of heretical glory.

So where do I go? Which school do I pick? At this point, my top choice is University of Michigan, but I have no idea how realistic that is right now, and if I should just focus on graduating summa cum laude at my dinky little state school and then roll in a bed of ivy leaves and loan money at the graduate level.

By the way, the creepy elitism I generally see dominating CC…if it could avoid this post, and just make way for the grown ups, the realists, and the people who aren’t bathing in Benjamins, that would be great.

The first question is what can your family afford? Few transfer students get any merit aid. FA depends on the school What is your home state?

“Creepy elitism?” You’re positively frightening me.
