My senior daughter struggles with math exams. She has gotten good grades in math and is currently in pre-cal, but she has had a tough time with her ACT and SAT exams.
If super scoring, which would present better to college admissions?:
SAT: Math 550 English 600- 1150 combined (coming from 2 SAT exams)
ACT: Math 21, science 24, english 24, reading 31 25 Composite (coming from 3 different ACT tests)
Thank you ucbalumnus, this is helpful. Clearly the ACT is the better presentation and I understand not all superscore.
Another question- If a school is test optional, would you submit the ACT scores? My daughter has a 3.6, has taken a rigorous (4 AP and 4 honors) schedule. Thanks again.
Depends on how the test scores compare with those at the college who did send test scores. Applicants with higher test scores than the college’s range should send them. Also, check carefully whether the test-optional policy applies in all situations (e.g. it may only be test-optional for specific majors and/or with a high enough GPA).
If she doesn’t feel that her standardized tests reflect her academics then consider some of the excellent test optional colleges. Here is a list sorted by state. https://www.fairtest.org/university/optional/state
Agree with ucb. But you don’t mention grades, rigor, ECs and the other factors which matter in TO admissions. Find the right schools for her, don’t try to overreach just because a college is TO. You want her to “fit and thrive.”
