I am a 18 year old male from Denmark, and I am considering attending a good community college in order to transfer to a (preferably) top-tier school.

I have looked at De Anza College. Due to the severe budget cuts throughout the school-system in California, is it even possible to transfer after two years at De Anza? I NEED to transfer after two years…

I have also looked at Green River Community College in Washington state. Is this a solid CC? How motivated and capable are the students? Are budget cuts an issue in Washington state as well?

I work at Everett CC, about 40 miles north of Green River CC. All states are having to make budget cuts because of the bad economy, and Washington is no exception. I expect that next year, our allocation from the state will be cut by about 10% and tuition will be increased by about 10%. Still, we are in better shape than California! Green River CC is a very nice college with an attractive campus, located about 20 miles south of Seattle. They have one of the strongest programs for international students in the state, and they have dorms, which is quite uncommon for a Washington community college. I know several faculty from there, and find them to be quite impressive. Many students are trying to transfer to the University of Washington, but only those with good grades are successful at that. There are several regional universities that are also transferred to, most notably Western Washington University and Central Washington University.

If you go to De Anza in the fall quarter, be prepared for packed parking at the beginning of the quarter, there simply is not enough parking space. Also some of the workers can be nasty. Some say it’s the best community college around here, I suppose. I tend not to agree, but to each his/her own.
