That sounds like pain, too. It’s small area that need touching up or touching down. I think I probably would have a better control with steel wool where to touch up.

Oh, no, I don’t plan to repaint! I would just like to make it not so shiny. I normally like to paint sparingly to preserve the original molding as sharply as possible. I do not like old house with thick coat of paints on wood moldings. That’s why I have to fire my repairman from future paint job. He applied rather generous amount of paint.

Try a magic eraser. Their scrubbing action is like a gentle fine grit sandpaper. You have to be careful using them on high gloss paint because they will dull the sheen. In this case, that’s exactly the result you want.
