What does this deadline entail? Do I have to be super smart to be able to qualify for these scholarships or is it for those who want to be considered for more aid?

Take a look at the avg GPA of accepted students last year and the 25-75% range of their SAT/ACT scores. If your scores fall above the 75% range, and your GPA (UW) is above the average you have a good shot at a merit scholarship. Some of the creative majors will look more closely at your portfolio/awards/audition and supplemental material, and they will all look for great essays, ECs, leadership and recs. All it takes to be considered is to get the application in on time–so why not try?

But is it just for merit scholarships or any scholarship? Because I don’t think my stats are at USC’s top standards.

Just apply, USC may give you a dean scholarship.

When my son applied to USC last year, there was a long list of various scholarships offered at USC. This list was in the application brochure. Did you check to see the various scholarships? They all had different kinds of qualifications. I suggest you review the various scholarships and see if you think you fit anything. Just apply before the early deadline for scholarship consideration and hope for the best. USC also gives financial aid too if you qualify.

The early deadline is for merit scholarships, not for financial aid. But there is certainly no harm in sending your application in a month early. A small chance of a scholarship is better than no chance at all.
