Deadline- signing up for APs

After solving conflicts in my schedule, these are the test I am taking (they include their respective AP classes);
-US History
-French Language (slight chance I might not take the test though)
-Calc AB
-English Lang & Comp

If you’re planning on self-studying for an AP, you have to talk to your guidance counselor right?

Does anyone know when the “deadline” to make a decision is?

I was thinking of trying one of the “easier” AP:
-Psychology
-Enviromental Science
-European History (this is probably not that easy but I have the books)
-Human Geography

I’m a math person but my English teacher tells me that I’m a good essay writer, so I don’t know what to do. (I can’t memorize that well). Any advice?

You sign up for the tests in March, though last year I dropped AP French two weeks before the test and only lost 4 dollars, so signing up and dropping isn’t bad. Basically, you’ll just need to give yourself enough time to prepare – I’d personally recommend Environmental Science, since I spent the entire class last year doing Calc homework and never studied and still got a 5. Use a review book, but most of it’s common sense. For the other ones, I know nothing about Human Geo, but I’ve heard it’s really easy, the new Ap Psych class at our school is a rediculous amount of memorization (but I don’t know how much of that is determined by the test – and few schools take AP Psych credits). You’re most likely to get credit for Euro, but it’s a lot of work (easy if you’re in a class, but it’d take a while to self-study), and it’d probably be difficult to get a 5 (the usual score to get credit at highly selective colleges) without a teacher.

Hey thanks for the info. I need to find another AP test (if I don’t take French that I probably won’t pass) to qualify for AP scholar with distinction, BEFORE I start my college apps senior year. That is of course, if I do well on English, Calc and USHist. I already have a 5 in World History from my sophomore year.

do most schools give credit for self studied ap calc bc and ap com sci ab?

bump .

schools give credit for test results, so it doesn’t matter if you self study or take a class

calc BC - usually gets you out of 2 semesters of “background” math (if you’re not going into math, usually fufills a requirement)

i dont know about comp sci, as its never a required course, but it may get u advanced standing in a comp sci major.

this is assuming 5s on the tests

So does someone have ANY clue when a decision to take an AP test OR to not take a test has to be made?
It might be slightly different for international schools right?

My AP registration form was due in February last year. Just ask your GC.

Yeah, it’s probably earlier for international schools.

I don’t know if you took AP Bio, but if you did, I’d def. go with psych.

the deadline for registration is the end of February/ beginning of March depending on when the school places its order of tests. (and yes this includes international schools)

brassmonkey are you sure that colleges don’t care about taking the class just about taking the exam? Please Tell me Thanks!!!

Can your councelor not let you take the AP Exams? Just wondering Thanks

You usually need lab experience (aka your lab notebook) to get credit for science AP’s.

AP exam = college level test, AP course = college level work. There’s a difference.

Yes your counselor can not let you take a test or ask you to pay more (if no other person at your school is taking the test) for a room or a proctor.
But you can probably go to a neighboring school that DOES offer it, just talk to or email the people there.

so wut is the use to take an AP class and not take the test related to the class? Now Im taking AP english because I can write standard essay, but my english skill is really poor and i dont know wut i will get on the test.

btw what will happen if u fail an AP test? or get something like 2?

Nothing really happens if you “fail” an AP test. If you don’t like your score, you simply don’t have to report it to colleges

Can I report 1 score, and not all?

AP scores are completely self reported to colleges, meaning you do not need to send an official score report to colleges. Rather, applications have a place to write AP scores, where you can selectively write or omit your scores.

got it, thx
