Dean's Achievement Scholarship

What kind of numbers do you need to get this scholarship? What other things are they looking for other than grades? Any help would be great

If you’re referring to the Oxford Dean’s scholarship, the average GPA and SAT/ACT of the kids awarded this scholarship is on their website. If memory serves correctly, i believe the average GPA was around 3.9-3.92 and the SAT average (math and reading) was around 1428-1450. I could be off by a little so to make sure, you can check online for the exact data.

However, you don’t need to have exactly these scores to get this scholarship. It’s only an “average”, so there are kids with lower scores certainly getting this award. They judge you very individually and not solely based off numbers.

If you were referring to another scholarship I apologize for misinterpreting your question.

I received the DAS as a rising sophomore, although it is awarded to both rising sophomores and rising juniors. You must have a 3.6 to be nominated, but obviously higher is better. The students I know who received the scholarship had at least a 3.8. Besides academic excellence, the most important factor by far is campus involvement and breadth of interests. They are looking for people who are involved in lots of different organizations/activities on campus (sports, music, community service clubs, research, etc.) and have significant roles in those organizations. I’ve noticed that they tend to prefer students who take lots of different classes or double major in two very different areas, as opposed to students who stick completely with one subject. Essentially, they are looking for students who really embrace everything that Emory has to offer, take advantage of opportunities, and excel. Recommendation letters are also extremely important, so it’s a good idea to get to know professors well.
