<p>Just wondering if anyone has any details about what being a Dean’s Scholar means. I got a letter about it today from the Dean of McCormick. The perks it mentioned were the Dean’s Scholar Advisory Council, speaker series, resource group, and special freshman advising…</p>

<p>I trawled a little bit through the archives and found this: </p>

So I’m one, and I believe there’s about 30-40 of us per year out of the 300 students in the McCormick class. We’re selected by UG Admission and no, there are NO substantial benefits to it. The point is to bring the smartest (as deemed by the Admission office ) students from McCormick together, so they can get to know each other. You get to go to events for free with the other Dean’s Scholars, so I guess it can be kind of fun. Unfortunately, most events are during classes and I’ve been to like 3 of them.</p>
<p>The events might be lunch with faculty members, a boat trip down the Chicago river, the Chicago auto show, and basically anything along these lines. Not really a big deal since the class is so small that you meet the same people anyway. But hey – it’s stuff for free most of the time!

We’ll have to research it a bit. Any previous Dean’s Scholars here?/anyone at NU who knows anything more about them?</p>
