I love pumpkin and have been making pumpkin pancakes, pumpkin bread, roasted pumpkin seeds, etc for over 20 years. Most products related to the pumpkin spice trend does not appeal to me. They taste like chemicals and sugar with some nutmeg. I do like Starbucks pumpkin loaf and eat it year round but think the latte is too sweet.
I just an ad for Libby’s canned pumpkin with a latte recipe that touted the fact that the drink had actual pumpkin in it. Canned pumpkin in a drink does not sound very appetizing to me.
I love pumpkin. But I just totally feel it has taken the spotlight away from the apple! Early fall IS apple to me! (not to mention that it’s still summer for 3 more weeks!)
It’s hard to beat a good Dutch apple pie… especially with some type of caramel sauce in play and/or a slice of sharp cheddar. dang it, I should abstain from food discussions so far away from lunch…
I stand with you abasket! I’m good with a slice of pumpkin pie on Thanksgiving, other than that, give me apple. I abhor sicky sweet pumpkin flavoring. I’ve had one pumpkin spice latte in my life and did not get the love, just way too sweet. It’s in everything now.
I despise pumpkin flavored everything. Apples are my jam. I’m absolutely with you, abasket, but I haven’t really seen it. I don’t shop at Starbucks though so maybe that’s why?
I love apple too. I used to pick them from the orchard and the smell was unbelievable. That’s why for Thanksgiving I get both pumpkin and apple. I don’t have to choose.
Hot apple cider at Starbucks or other places is a flavor treat! It may be a little sweet but since it’s clear as opposed to creamy the flavor is crisp.
I’m not even just talking about the pumpkin spice latte. It’s pumpkin in general. Pinterest is abound with pumpkin-anything recipes. Newspaper recipe sections the same. Facebook shares. Pumpkin, pumpkin, pumpkin!
Early autumn for me is the time to mourn the passing of stone fruit season. Luckily there’s still three more weeks of summer and a few excellent producers with late summer peaches and nectarines.
While I love a good crisp apple eaten out of hand, I don’t like apple- (or pumpkin) flavored anything.
In fact, I have the opposite problem – the creeping apple-juicification of everything! I loathe the taste of apple juice but more and more products are claiming to be “all fruit” and using apple-juice concentrate as a sugar substitute. You therefore get, for example, all-fruit blackberry preserves that taste like apple juice. No, blech, yuck.
Not a big fan of apple sauce, apple pie, apple cake, apple bread, or anything else other than a raw apple. I don’t like pumpkin stuff either.
I am totally with you. Every season gets rushed. I saw Halloween stuff in my local stores in July-yucch. This is retail. They get their orders in early and get deliveries early and have to make room for them on the shelves. We’ll be seeing Christmas stuff soon, yucch. Remember when Christmas buying season actually started the day after Thanksgiving? Yeah, I miss those days. There’s something to be said about seeing Halloween and Christmas stuff in the stores while walking around and sandals.
Btw: I LOVE everything apple, but not a fan of pumpkin. My bil LOVES everything pumpkin, so he’s probably doing a happy dance these days!
I wish they would offer pumpkin spice year round. The good news is that if they are offering pumpkin at Starbucks…salted caramel mocha is coming soon. For some odd reason they have this as a winter drink. It tastes like a snickers and is my very favorite flavored anything at Starbucks!
how do you guys drink that stuff and not blow up like balloons??? I’d gain a pound any time I even sipped one. I had my third frozen custard cone for the summer the other day, but it was on a break on a 20 mile bike ride, so I figured I’d take the chance. But for everyday “coffee”-drinking, it would be deadly. #envious
