December 2014 Chemistry SAT Subject Test

@wldb15‌ It was definitely CE.

@yhhswds‌ I think it was at what time is a quarter of A turned into B…Just take a fourth of the initial concentration and match with time. It was relatively straightforward, so I don’t remember exactly the answer.

to all, are covalent bonds broken when something evaporates? (I said false…The bond could be ionic, mettalic, etc)

And does anyone remember the relationship one about endothermic reactions? What did you put?

@hendersonHYPS‌ I don’t think covalent bonds break when something evaporates. (when water evaporates, the covalent bonds in between don’t break, but the IMF forces do)*i think

@Debias12‌ Thanks, that what I got. So i think it was True, evaporation is an endothermic process, and False, covalent bonds are not broken during evaporation?

Or am i confusing two questions?

@hendersonHYPS yes that’s right. and btw it was at what time is half of A turned into B

@moscow997‌ Yeah, i don’t remember specifics. I just remember thinking it was easy.

Any other questions?

When two elements combine, the compound doesn’t have to be polar, does it? I put F, T for that one because different elements usually have different electronegativities.

I put the value when B turned to half of A, not when A was half of it’s original value. How about you?

I think the diatomic one was TF. Because I2 that is Iodine exists as a diatomic molecule and its a solid right?
And the test was pretty normal. But I guess that’s because I use Barron’s. Idk.

40s when half of A turned to B

@thatindianguy‌ @omarhaider‌ I agree with thatindianguy. I said when half of A turned to B. And the diatomic was defnitely TF.

Do you remember the last two relationship anlaysis?

@hendersonHYPS I don’t remember anything properly because I was really screwed up over not having brought my calculator for Math II- which was to say the least fudged!
But vaguely I think it was something relating to bonds being polar and electronegativities. Normally I’d put FT but they had used the word “Usually” in both the sentences. So I marked it TTCE with a heavy heart.

What’s the answer for question about partial pressure of the gas if the total pressure was 790 mm Hg?

@thatindianguy‌ It was definitely TTCE, and in fact, most bonds are polar. Molecules may not be polar if bonds are symmetrical, but bonds themselves are polar.

@triplelutz‌ I believe it was 400mmHg. (0.04 moles gas)/(0.1 moles total) * 10^3 mm Hg…

@hendersonHYPS‌ That’s what I marked (40 seconds), guess the way i wrote it here made it confusing.
@thatindianguy @hendersonHYPS‌ did the question ask if the bond was polar with two different elements or with the same?

@omarhaider‌ it said different because when i read it the first time i made sure to reread it again to emphasize the word “different” for myself xD

@omarhaider It was most probably different.

Got 700 in May and raised to 770 in December test! woohoo :smiley:

Got 700 in november and raised it to 760 :slight_smile: not that satisfied but I am quite happy

Was the first time I took the subject tests… Got 760 in Chem and 690 in Maths II (forgot to bring my calculator)… But I guess I won’t be applying to US colleges so now these scores are useless… [-X
