December 2015 Christmas travel!

Here we go…again.

My kid is sitting on a plane in Atlanta with no estimated time of takeoff…due to thunderstorms. Huge backup there…all departures and arrivals apparently suspended until??

Hoping she gets home…today!!

fingers crossed for your D!

S is just driving in from Boston. Glad the weather is good since when it’s bad going through the Berkshires on the Pike is a PITA.

S1 and DIL were heading to her family in upstate NY. Their flight from SFO made it to Newark slightly delayed, but they had an adequate layover built in so that was alright. Their flight from Newark was delayed almost 2 hours on top of that, so they got to the airport in upstate NY at 2am. I feel badly for whoever in her family was picking them up at the airport.

Good luck thumper. Hope your D makes it home today.

Just got a text…supposedly they are taking off…now!

Eleven hours for a drive that normally takes four and a half for S1, and lucky to have made it. The Cascades are getting absolutely hammered with snow. I-90 (and other roads) is closed due to avalanches.

Keeping my fingers crossed that D2’s flight this evening from New York City will not be delayed.

Yay, thumper!

H and I had a very easy trip driving from DC area to NYC this AM. A pleasant and welcome surprise.
Safe travels, all.

We thought it would be easy, but not! Our middle kid was supposed to arrive last night, but the first leg of his trip was delayed, meaning he would have missed his connection in Chicago on the last flight of the day. Ugh! Fortunately DH did a quick rebook for today and he is almost home now–only 24 hours late. Just happy he’s not going to be stuck in an airport for Christmas

Yep, I flew east of Atlanta yesterday around that time. The radar picture was very ugly over Arlanta. Weird, usually the delays around Christmas are at the other hubs, and Atlanta is the best bet. Not this year. Hopefully your kiddo got home at a decent time yesterday!

Boy this makes nonstop flights look better and better, as I REALLY don’t want to be stranded (nor have loved ones delayed) in transit. @PlantMom, good job by your H!

Aaaargh! I got refused passage at Immigration Control because of a passport glitch. I cannot leave the country and have missed my flight to the US.

Can’t even begin to start resolving the problem until Monday when the US Embassy reopens. I spent xmas eating pizza w/o the family. :frowning:

The only silver lining in this horrible, depressing SNAFU is that I get to see the Downton Abbey xmas finale while I’m stuck here.

So sorry, GMT!!! You need a good bottle of wine to wash that pizza down! I can’t imagine how perturbed you must be.

Oh, GMTplus7. I’m very sorry, too! I hope you at least have a safe and soft place to bed down until Monday.

Ouch, GMT! Sorry this happened to you and your family. Hope the folks at the embassy will be able to sort it out on Monday.

Travel update after the airport immigration fiasco last week
