December SAT Scores are In!

Ann you made several statements not backed by fact. I have gone through this process twice and I think I know a little bit more than you. You do no favors putting your 2 Cents in.

Since I don’t want candidates to be confused by my statements, I will give this one more try and then get out of your “sandbox”. You’re all a little quick to take my statements, extrapolate them to the nth degree and then make conclusions that I did not intend.

With no nomination process admission to the CGA is a purely competitive process
Candidates are required to meet certain minimum standards and be found qualified in three areas: academics, physical ability and medical fitness
Once qualified they are ranked according to a whole candidate score (WCS) and those with the highest scores are offered admission
For the CGA the whole candidate score is as follows: 60% academics, (30% class rank, 30% SAT scores) and 40% leadership potential. The CFA is pass/fail and is not factored in.

GPA is not factored into the WCS and from that point of view it is not important to the academies. But that does not mean that it is not important at all. Class rank is based on GPA and course difficulty (weighted GPAs are usually used), so from that perspective it is very important. Candidates should aim to be in the upper fifth of their class. The higher the better.

SATs are very important and the combined SAT score makes up 50% of the academic score. I have said that the CGA puts more emphasis on the English SAT than other academies (I did NOT say that math was not important to the CGA). This was information that was provided to an entire state by the CGA admissions department last year. If that information is incorrect – if they transposed their numbers in the literature they provided and presented, I will let you know. With the admissions department closed for the holidays they will likely not answer my query until next week.

Who knows!!! Anyway, with a mid SAT and high GPA and top 4% of class out of 548 I think he has a good shot at getting an appointment from the alternate pool…at least I’m praying that.

"if they transposed their numbers in the literature they provided and presented, I will let you know. "

Yes, that is exactly what happened.
Academic score = 60% (class rank 30%, English SAT/ACT 10%, Math SAT/ACT 20%)
With any luck the error will be corrected for this year’s presentation.

Apologies for any confusion

Resume normal sandbox activties… :D
