<p>Hi, I’m an international student (from the UK) and was just wondering if this is a good EC to make me stand out:</p>
<p>In 10th and 11th grade I led a project campaigning for the prevention of proposed government funding cuts to our local police force. It involved interviewing the local police force, raising awareness of the issue by speaking to members of the public in the area, and eventually writing a letter to my local Member of Parliament (similar to a Senator) presenting my findings. I did receive a letter back from him where he congratulated me and said that he agreed with me. </p>
<p>I’m intending to apply to HYPSM and from reading what ECs other people have, I’m worried I won’t stand out enough, like there are people on here who have founded their own companies, are on national sports teams, etc, and then there’s me who plays the piano, violin, and rock climbs, plus working in a charity shop and being on my school’s debate team. </p>
<p>I understand that admissions to these top schools is holistic but from what I’ve read, everyone applying to HYPSM already has top grades and so it is the ECs that distinguish each candidate from one another.</p>
<p>Any thoughts? Many thanks. By the way I’m currently starting 12th grade</p>
