I would appreciate if anyone has any input about choosing which score to use for applications. (apps only allow me to choose one test date)

1st score: 1190 (780Q, 410V, 5.5 AW)

2nd score: 1270 (720Q, 550V)

I am applying to a Master’s for Biomedical Engineering at Cornell U, Columbia U, and Rutgers U.

Realistically, are these scores good enough as long as I have a competitive GPA, letters, and research experience?

I am also not sure which score is better to use for engineering. I have heard that engineering cares more about Quantitative, but is that still true with such a low Verbal score of 410?

the percentiles matter more than the number scores. what are your percentiles?

also, a lot of people will be applying with perfect 800Qs, so while i’m not in engineering, i’d recommend applying with the 780Q and the poor verbal score because, honestly, your second verbal score isn’t much better. engineering programs generally don’t care about verbal scores, and 550V is still pretty junk, so go with the highest Q score.

and, it’s odd that you mention the schools will only accept one score report, because i’m under the impression that all your scores for all your test dates are sent to any schools you select. i could be wrong, it’s been a while since i took the test and only took it once, but i thought all the scores go out…

i agree with the above, even though the reasoning they gave is kind of off.

a 410 and 550 are leagues different. one is below average, the other is 75%. a 550 is hardly ‘junk.’ they are correct in that Q is way more important however. as a response to the single score thing, most schools restrict you to a single sitting, so that’s why the OP is asking.

i didn’t realize the percentile for 550 was that high. i’m in the humanities/social sciences, so i just sort of assumed that score was lower. in my field, that would be junk. in a science field, not at all.

but still. OP should go with the highest Q score.
