They decided to be a little lenient this year in deciding who was “Early Response.” Next year will likely be different, with more specificity about when items have to be IN (versus when postmarked)

in-state, 3.5 UM GPA, decent rec and essays, great ECS

anybody else think it’s a little ridiculous that they make such a big deal out of the early response thing? i mean, they say “You’ll know if you’re in or not by Dec. 21!”…but really, that only applies to some people. the rest of us just get told “well…you might be in. you’ll find out in april.”

Doubledian: Essays were very specific about why UMIch and particular programs…In addition, I started my own successful business in high school, but it doesn’t look like they cared…According to our Naviance at our school, I was exactly on the border of acceptance/deferral; we do not have very good rates of acceptance initially and I’m not sure about after deferrals…NBD, it wasn’t among my top choices (although an amazing school nonetheless…)…What is very bizarre, IMO, was why it took them 10 weeks to defer? I would have taken my time to apply if I knew that…

Gossipgirl: Good question, but it is not likely given what we have all read on this thread…

got my nice deferral letter today in the mail today. (i live 10 min. away from Ann Arbor)

dated december 13th, 2007.

whatever.

UM is so weird with their admissions decisions. I had a 29 ACT and 4 AP’s and a girl next to me in English got in with a 27 ACT and 2 AP’s and a lower GPA and not as many extracurriculars. Also, my friend got deferred and got into UNC-Chapel Hill…what the hell?

good luck to all of you and there are plenty of other good schools so don’t get upset.

i dont have a good umich gpa. i got killed b/c of 4-5 B+s and one C+. however, i had a 2250 in one sitting in the sats and a 1500 (higher for other schools that were superscored). ive also taken rly hard classes. it kills me b/c i know i could do the work if i went there. hopefully ill get into my early, but umich is my second choice.

I personally think that the UM admissions office is full of dumb-a…

I mean seriously, they only care about your overall GPA - they don’t give a crap about the difficulty of your school, or how many AP’s you took. It just seems that way because I’ve met lots of people here that never took any AP classes or did really poorly on their AP exams (most likely due to the fact that their schools are very average) and still got in. I know lots of people with 4.0 GPA’s in high school that are struggling to maintain a B average.

I just came to visit, I am not applying here, but here’s one of my friend’s stat. (Brief)

Admitted at something to do with business area

Asian female Calif resident (citizen) public high school
SAT: somewhere around 1700
SAT II: Chem below 570 (i joked that i got 570 , and she said she got lower) Korean w/ Listening 690
GPA: idk but i am sure it’s somewhere 3.7~3.8 weighted
EC’s: Pretty good, but not eyepopping
Essay: she said she kicked ass here… idk she wrote something about playing violin having to do with her life.

First I was happy for her, but she said she doesnt want to go there… She wants to go to UCSD when decision comes out (i dont even know if she’s gonna get in to UCSD because I seriously think it’s really surprise that she got in to UMich ann arbor)

O yea and her parents are rich if that helps? but no legacy or donation

Oh, and she said she met early deadline or something, and no one else in my school applied (because they all go to CC / CSU / or UC) if that helped her somehow.
