Yeah, I was looking at some campus tours on YouTube today so I’ll be doing more research in the meantime! I hope your son is enjoying himself!
Here are some of the photos I’ve got:

My father may have posted more, if you scroll back through the 2024 parent forum for messages from “HKDad1” concerning Lehigh.
In hindsight, I’ll go back and label the buildings I remember.
Wow, thank you so much!!!
Thank you so much!!!
Thank you! Love his decorations!
I think the schools are substitutional - both are strong in the social sciences but Maxwell is repeatedly the #1 graduate school for public affairs (which will trigger down to many majors on the undergraduate level).
Lehigh meets need (if you have) - SU doesn’t necessarily.
The campuses are different. Lehigh is hilly. But if you go to SU and live at Flint Hall, you’ll be taking - if it’s still 140 steps - several times a day. I prefer SU to Lehigh but everyone will think differently. I thought Lehigh was sort of haunted in feel - beautiful but maybe it was overcast that day.
If you decide to do health sciences, SUNy has a medical center near SU and it may provide research, work, or shadowing opportunities. You might look into that - I’d assume but you should verify that there would be opportunities for SU students.
Not sure if Lehigh has a similar nearby medical set up - something else to look at.
In the end, you need to go where’s affordable - but two reasonable people could choose either school - and both be right.
Best of luck.
PS - are there any other schools that you can consider that aren’t as Greek or party oriented - maybe you have another admission that you should reconsider if it might better meet your needs?
Both Lehigh and Syracuse supposedly have about 30% participation in fraternities and sororities.
Thank you! I got into a couple other schools but nothing that I’m feeling too much unfortunately.
Good to know, thank you!
As far as I know, all the classes at Syracuse are taught by faculty. My kid already has pretty close relationships with his professors as a freshman there. For example, it was easy for him to get 3 of them to write letters of recommendation for him for summer programs after just 1 semester.
Obviously, you’d get this at Lehigh too, but I’ve been impressed that the larger size of Syracuse doesn’t impair the close relationships as much as one might expect. My spouse teaches at a much smaller LAC and I don’t think our son’s classes at Syracuse have been much bigger on average than those at the LAC.
I agree that OP should choose whichever school seems like the better overall fit. Two great choices and I don’t think they’ll go wrong either way.
This thread is great, I love all the pictures!
@s719 I hope that you start feeling excited enough about one or both of these schools that you will want to change the in your thread title to a
!
Fafsa will only result in 5.5k in federal loans - are both Syracuse and Lehigh affordable with that (without parental loans)?
Or are you Pell-eligible?
Have you run the NPC for both -and for your other choices?
Thank you so much!!! The Frown is turning upside down as we speak!
That’s where the problem is. My father passed away in April of 2022 and I, still a minor until September, received a single-time life insurance policy that is being factored into the amount of aid I’m getting. I received some grant-money from each school but I’ll only be able to afford less than two years. I’m submitting an appeal to see if anything changes, but if God forbid something doesn’t work out neither school will be financially possible
Sorry to hear about your dad - that stinks.
This is a big concern. When I was at SU, one of my friends there had to leave after two years. The parents sold the house and moved into a trailer to send her - and still had to pull her out.
If you cannot afford either school for four years, you should not attend. There are still schools taking apps - many, depending on budget and our stats, potentially more affordable.
In the end, budget has to drive these decisions.t
Don’t assume that as your finances dip the schools will be there for you.
So you are smart to call this out now.
And if you need to pivot elsewhere, it would be wise.
Good luck.
