When did you and/or your family decide to apply to boarding school? (i.e. How many years/months has it been since the decision as of now?)
Starting in 6th or 7th grade allows time to visit campuses informally, and the Caroline D Bradley scholarship application is due in 7th grade. But many families start seriously looking the summer before 8th grade, and apply that fall.
The formal decision was made last spring (spring of 7th grade) after 1.5 lackluster years at the local public school.
But my husband is an alumnus of one of the top schools, and his parents both attended private boarding schools. He’s been following the tuition costs and other details at his alma mater since our kid was an infant. I don’t think our kid would have considered this at all without hearing his stories of his years at school. Unfortunately for him, his alma mater is not at the top of the list for our kid.
I’ve been looking at BS since sixth grade. In 7th grade, it was my dream to apply and attend (although it felt really long away back then). Now, I am actually applying, and it feels unreal.
However, I’ve heard of BS all the way back from like 2nd grade.
Philosophically, in a big picture sense, we started discussing it in 6th grade. The actual grunt work of researching schools, setting up interviews, formally/informally visiting schools, etc. happened during the summer preceding 8th grade.
I asked my parents if I could go to boarding school in 7th grade when my friend’s sister told me about Lawrenceville
