Decisions Are Up!

hey peanutbutter, whats your ethnicity and do you go to an “easy” high school?

I don’t see how peanut_butter’s ethnicity affects the decisions. tnn got in with a 1600 and he’s Asian (the not-underrepresented-minority) and at a good school too. At this point in the college process, we need to avoid talking about race, because racial tensions can easily flare between those who got in, and those who didn’t but had similar statistics. The college admissions have reviewed all aspects of the application, and while we’re rather more willing to give out our SAT and GPA scores, people on this board are understandably less willing to disclose intimate private information pertaining to their applications (personal loss, sicknesses, low income), information that might ultimately be the deciding factor for their admission.

im east indian, and my high school isnt considered easy in my town, its one of the better schools. and i come from an upper middle class family…
im truly sorry dandaman, i got realllllly lucky and im sure you will be able to go to a school equally as great as ucsd

We’ll i got the shortend of the stick too, dandaman, don’t feel too bad. everything happens for a reason, did you apply to UCB or UCLA?

bruins, yeah i applied to B and LA, but i really doubt i will get in, my SAT’s are close to their average( a little higher actually) but my GPA is way lower.
UCSD was really the middle ground that i had a shot of getting into. man i researched their information on studentresearch.ucsd.edu from top to bottom and i should have gotten in(according to 2005 info). i cant believe that it changed so fast and so much in 2 years

man don’t give up. Just like there are what appears to be flukes with the UCSD admissions, I’m sure some people will get lucky with B and LA too (I certainly hope I will XD) and besides, maybe they will find you amazing and wonderful in some aspect that’ll make up for the gpa.

i sure hope so, because if you look at ucsd’s comprehensive review(point system), there is no space for the essays, so does that mean ucsd doesnt even read them?

i had a really good essay about how i helped a kid and want to keep helping kids in peer college counseling, hopefully that creates a change of winds for me in berk

if I were to give UCSD the benefit of the doubt, I’d say that they probably look for leadership and other point-earning qualities that come through in your essays.

except the foreign language that is math

In the article somebody posted a while back, it said that they really only scan the essays for stuff they can give you more points on (hardship, leadership, etc).

Has anyone gotten the packet back yet? I live in SD so I got it today in the mail. Hehe, it’s pretty funny. The front says “There are a few moments in life you’ll always remember-this is one of them. Congratulations, its the BIG envelope!” xD It has a little poster thingy inside with info about the school, but the envelope is an ugly monochrome light blue >>;;
