Decisions

So I am a senior, up to make decisions for the coming application cycle. Now first off, I need to ask a question about dual depositing. Is it ok to “deposit” for three schools with one being my UK firm offer, one being my UK insurance offer, and one being a school in the States? Now my final question is at the bottom if you wish to skip the life story.

Now I also request further insights as I haven’t been the best high school student up to senior year. Up through junior year mid April, I probably was one of the laziest students and the fact I was in a homework intensive school high lighted this as coming into senior year I had a Grade Point Average of 2.65(UW/W). I believe this doesn’t really reflect my ability as I have a 32 act(33 superscore)/1450(1600) SAT. My other spots on my application I believe are relatively good minus gpa, academic courses(gpa requirement for ap/honors), and race. Now I have gotten my act together this year making first honors at my high school and my special enrolled community college courses will most likely be around 3.78 and 27 or so credits.

I went into college admissions season extremely hopeful but have met disappointment with many of my top US schools sending out the deadly d’s of deferral and declination. I have made it into U ALABAMA(honors), ST.LOUIS UNIVERSITY, WAYNE STATE,and UNIVERSITY OF MICHIGAN(dearborn). I have been deferred from Michigan State(Instate), University of Michigan Ann Arbor, Fordham University, and Tulane University while being declined by Case Western Reserve University and University of Minnesota. I still am waiting to hear back from Loyola Chicago and Oberlin.

Next I realized during application season that my applications wouldn’t be up to par of many of the schools I applied to so I decided to apply overseas to four British Universities for economics(Warwick, UCL, LSE, Nottingham) and The University of Bristol for economics and management. I have made it into Nottingham and Bristol with offers of 455(Bristol inclusive of 4 Calc BC, 5 Micro/MEH/USH or WH) and 5444 or 5(BC Calc)44(any history). I still am waiting for the other universities and since I have predicted(from diagnostic tests+extra self study on the 4’s) 5-5-5-5-5-5-5(630 tariff points) I believe I may be able to garner a conditional acceptance from at least one of these other universities.

Thus I come to a cross road. Combining AP credits with community college courses I believe I easily will be able to graduate from most American Universities in three years, and all of my UK course selections are three year programs. UK universities will cost approximately 35-45k per year taking 15-20k for living expenses/travel and 20-25k for tuition(Warwick is 3500 pounds more expensive than all the others). US universities will cost around 14k/year for UM Dearborn/Wayne(commuter+living expenses of being home) 25k/year for Michigan/Michigan State and upwards of 35-50k/year for the private schools/OOS schools. However looking at Naviance, I would be the lowest admit to both Michigan and Michigan State gpa wise and thus I believe I won’t get into. So now what should I do?

I see my real choice being between Alabama(honors), Loyola Chicago(I might get a small amount of money and was told I basically was in), U of M Dearborn, and whichever British University I “firm” at or if I use “adjustment” if my conditional scores turn to straight 5’s. I am not sure what I want to do out of college other than most likely working in the states/English speaking country. I also am full pay for all of these universities with my EFC hovering around 50k. I can afford up to 36k or so a year without a job or loans.

I have made pros and cons lists and I want you to help me decide by trying to convince me one or the other.

Alabama(honors)
Pros

Seems more of a guided experience,
Full society dictated college experience,

Huge racial minority(not that my current school is better),
Worried about internships in Tuscaloosa,
Career services doesn’t seem to be up to par to British Universities,
Class size worries,
Looking for more of a larger city than Tuscaloosa,

Loyola Chicago

Class size worries,
Midwest winters,

U of M Dearborn,

Internships=Crap through UMD may be able to land interviews through networking friends/family/acquaintances,

Bristol/Warwick/UCL/LSE/Nottingham
Pros

Independent college experience,
Strong programs,
Career services sounds amazing from the college conf doppelganger site for UK,
All located in general larger cities,
Enrolled with more people my age,
Smaller class sizes,(E+M) +E + (E+A) program has 74 total slots per year,
England,
Worldwide Reputation,

Cons,
Possibly less interesting people/more gunners due to choice of program and UK admissions,
35-40k a year,
Professors sound distant,
Visas,
No Gen Ed’s,

Thank you for reading and if you decided to skip down to here, my question is~ What are some reasons for attending UAlabama honors(OOS), Loyola Chicago, University of Michigan Dearborn, and a British Uni between Bristol/Warwick/UCL/LSE/Nottingham for economics over the others.

Thanks Again, Run2flyfree.

I don’t know about any of the schools besides Loyola. Loyola is a great school and I feel like your GPA strongly affected your applications in other schools. But we need to deal with what we have. It also depends what you want to major in (sorry if I missed that part). It’s a bit pricey, but in this case your ACT will benefit you, because you will be provided with some nice scholarships, that could bring your tuition down 10k a year.

So would this 10,000 dollars be on top of the Jesuit high school scholarship?

You should go to Dearborn and then after a year or two see if you have transfer to Ann Arbor.

I am worried about being a Junior transfer however but that is one of the considerations from both Bama and Dearborn.
