Declining offer

<p>I’m almost certain I won’t be attending UIUC because I have a full scholarship to attend a university in Japan and since I’m international, I will 99% have to pay full tuition for UIUC, which my parents can do but are not very happy about considering the alternative option I have.</p>

<p>Is it better to decline the offer before 1 January 2014, so that they can admit 1 more RD student? It makes me really heartbroken to decline the offer so early since UIUC is my first choice school.</p>

<p>I talked to a admission counselor recently. He said that although there is no penalty for holding onto a admit offer but, it is helpful for other students and the application committee. I just declined my offer too because I know some friends that really want to get in but are on the deferred list.</p>
