Hello, just wondering if decommission from a college is an option. Im not sure if I have made the wrong choice specifically I would just like to know my options. I feel as though I may have rushed into a decision. Also, how difficult would this process be? -Thank you
Decommission???
Assuming you made a commitment somewhere? Did you apply early decision? Are athletics involved? Need more information to understand what kind of commitment you have made.
In your other thread it sounds like you want to commit to an unaffordable school hoping that will induce them to give you a better scholarship than they might if you were uncommitted. If I understand you correctly, your intent is to use that as a negotiating tactic. You seem to assume that if you “threaten” to go elsewhere they’ll negotiate a better deal. I don’t think they’ll care.
You can show a college the package from what they consider a peer school and ask if they’ll match it, or appeal due to extenuating circumstances (like large medical bills), but you can’t strong arm colleges into giving you more money.
So have you already accepted UC’s admission offer even though you don’t know the FA package? The recommendation provided by @austinmshauri above (AND on the other thread) is spot on. Wait for all the acceptances, evaluate the FA packages, if you like one more than the others see if they will match.
@austinmshauri its not the afordabilty aspect I am asking based upon. It is one the reality and the do ability of the situation. I was asking if at this point scholarship “negotiation” is even a reality or possibility. Sorry for the confusion.
@collegequery There are no athletics involved. I committed via their online website however I have not paid the fees yet. Im just in the clouds on the whole process. Sorry for the confusion
Don’t commit to a school you can’t afford. Wait until you get all your packages back, then decide. If you put a deposit down on this school you’ll likely lose it if/when you decline their offer for another school, but better to lose a couple hundred if you can avoid big debt.
You can ask the school for more if you’re offered more at a comprable school, but you may not get a lot. If you end up not liking their offer, accept one you do like and cancel your registration there.
