Deep essay

Did any one, in their interviews and essays, get very personal and felt that they stood out, and then got rejected?
did any one show excessive love for a school in an essay or interview and get rejected?
If so… where?
and did any one do this with not that great of stats and get accepted?

I think your questions need some tweaking.

“Did any one, in their interviews and essays, get very personal and felt that they stood out, and then got rejected?” Well of course this happened. But who is to know what factors really determined the rejection? It’s well established that for most schools, the interview is the slimmest of pieces of the overall picture the adcoms use to evaluate.

“did any one show excessive love for a school in an essay or interview and get rejected?” My answer: ditto to above. Of course people have been rejected by schools they love (see the recent threads about EA/ED rejections and deferrals)

It seems to me that your question is whether YOUR showing great love to a particular school in an essay or interview will be a tip for you. The top schools want students who know what the college’s mission is and how the student can mesh into that academic community and help fulfill that mission. Enthusiasm is important but academics is primary.

Write what you really feel – use “your voice”. Express yourself. Don’t worry if it’s a nudge or if it’s neutral. Good luck to you and don’t try to sooth yourself with others’ anecdotes.
