Deerfield Waitlist

Does anyone know how hard getting of the Deerfield waitlist is? Is it probable??

bump.

The probability of getting off any WL is slim. You should proceed with plan B. No one here can give you this information anyway as it differs year to year, and often these schools don’t even use their WLs. The only source of fact is the school itself. So call after A10 and see what they are willing to share with you.

yes^^ Do call after dust settles.

It’s hard as they have high acceptance rate from the admitted students. However, as a dancer you may have a better chance as Deerfield recently upgraded their arts facilities and may be looking for more artists to take advantage of those facilities. Send the AO any recent achievements you may have in arts and other areas. good luck.

^^^Again, they will only look for a dancer if a dancer they accepted chooses not to attend so, unless dancers have a higher tendency not to enroll, dancing will not increase the chance of coming off the WL.

It’s definitely possible! (My best friend got off) But as for the chances, I don’t know, that depends on what the school needs/wants.

@Choatiemom, If they have admitted more artsy students due to their recent emphasis on the arts, the chance for an artist to go off the waitlist goes up.

They will not pull a dancer if they are looking to fill a painter slot. I’m not saying there is zero possibility of coming off a WL. I’m saying the chance is so slim, don’t waste time guessing. Continue with plan B and call the WL school after A10 to get the only valuable information available.

For all intents and purposes, a WL is a soft rejection. Move on.

@Snowfire88 That’s positive news. What year?

I was also waitlisted! I wondered if they sent out different versions of waitlist letter

@alwaysbored I’m confused. Were you applying for a PG year? You also applied to Case Western Reserve?

@bsalum Yes. I applied for a PG year and also applied to Case Western. But I got waitlisted from both schools, which is very bizarre. Maybe they both thought that I wouldn’t go to their school.

It’s pretty much a standard letter. So many qualified applicants for so few spaces. Blah, blah, blah. Read nothing into the wording of a waitlist letter; there are no hidden Easter eggs.

@bsalum My friend is a new sophomore and she got off the waitlist last year.

wishing you luck with those waitlist @alwaysbored Are those the only 2 places you applied? so different…just interesting.

@bsalum Did you also apply for a PG year? Well I am actually not so interested in going to Case Western. I was just puzzled about the fact that I got deferred and then got waitlisted; I dont think I was that overqualified to be put in the waitlist.

I read somewhere in their online student newspaper that in my year (2014), they waitlisted about 800 applicants. They seem to use it as a soft rejection for admissable kids.

@alwaysbored and @dancer31

Just came across the article, decided to post it, and saw stargirl’s comment. Article is interesting. Wish we’d read it before applying.

The 800 on the WL number sounds impossibly high, but then broken down by category and once others drop off the WL, if (a big IF) a spot in your category opens up, perhaps not so impossible.

Wow, thank you so much for that article! Hopefully some open spots will be available for me  not getting my hopes up too much though! @Gnomen16
