defer acceptance/postpone starting date?

Can a student defer acceptance for one year at Pomona College?

Short answer: yes. Check out the College catalogue for the details: http://www.pomona.edu/adwr/registrar/catalog/06_Admissions.pdf.

Yes. My daughter did it. If you get in, there is a box on the reply card that you can check saying you want to defer. They will then ask you for a letter about your plans, which you submit for their approval. Assuming they approve, they ask for a report in the spring on what you’ve been up to. Pretty painless. I suspect they will approve most plans that are serious and substantive, though you can’t use the gap year to attend or apply to another college. My daughter went abroad on the Rotary Exchange program and had a great year.
