I was defered early action. Has anyone heard of a defered EA student getting merit aid? How unlikely would that be?

Heh, sounds pretty unlikely Did you send any updates?

If you’re a National Merit Finalist, you’ll get aid no matter when you’re admitted, EA, regular, or off the waitlist. Not much, but it’s aid.

Really? Sweet!!!

I’ve wondered the same thing.

This has been quite a painful wait. I can’t wait for it to be over and see the final decision.

Do you get NMSC aid even if you didn’t mark Chicago as your first choice?

no, but you can change it to be your first choice using that form that was given to you along with the packet

Ok that’s what I thought.

I would worry about getting accepted to UChicago first.

Just because he’s deferred doesn’t mean he/she can’t be concerned with other things. Chicago is an extremely expensive school and he/she very well be trying to decide between schools right now.

I don’t see how a deferred student would get merit aid unless he or she was deferred for an unusual reason, such as a problem with the file or something else that stopped the applicant from being fully evaluated in the first round. Keep in mind that merit scholarships are chosen by a faculty committee, not the admissions office. The admissions office “nominates” applicants, and then those files go to a group of faculty from all different departments across the University who then discuss and vote on the applicants.
