Deferral Question

Hey everyone,

I applied early action to NEU and was deferred. I have a 3.4 UW GPA, with a 1960 SAT. Since being deferred, I got a 32 composite score on my ACT, and all of my other stats have stayed the same (with the addition of 3 AP courses.) I’ve already submitted all of my updated information and am still waiting on a decision.

Why does NEU defer as opposed to denying, and does an ACT score that is above my previous performance SAT/GPA-wise significantly improve my chances of being accepted?

Thanks!

Schools defer because they have a sufficiently large group of strong applicants, and want to compare the still good but not quite as strong deferred student to other regular admission students. Many early action candidates are denied.

By all means if you have improved scores send them in now! This could bump you up and make the difference.

Great! Thanks for the helpful response.

I’ve already sent 'em in, so now it’s just time to play the waiting game. :)
