Deferral Question

Ok so apparently my school has quite a reputation of people getting deferred EA but then getting accepted during regular decision. This for sure has happened in the past two years and judging by what my guidance counselor said it has most likely happened at my school before that too.
My question is: Does a high success rate after a deferral for a particular school have anything to do with factors other than chance? More specifically, do I have a better chance at getting accepted during RD because my school traditionally gets a lot of deferrals->acceptances or is it completely random?

imo it all depends on the individual applicant

There could be something in common with several kids from your high school’s profiles (it makes sense that there could be some natural correlation there) which has caused this to happen. But the reality of the world is that kids from thousands of high schools apply to stanford, the normal distribution would certainly suggest that a school where something like this has happened for the past couple years is possible.

But no, the admissions committee won’t be considering patterns across other students from your HS when considering your application. Each person is voted on independently. The pattern you have noticed is simply chance, nothing more.
